Psychological Operation Section Propaganda
Psychological Operations or PSYOP are planned operations to convey selected
information and indicators to audiences to influence their emotions, motives,
objective reasoning, and ultimately the behavior of organizations, groups, and
individuals. Used in all aspects of war, it is a weapon whose effectiveness is
limited only by the ingenuity of the commander using it.
A proven winner in combat and peacetime, PSYOP is one of the oldest weapons in
the arsenal of man. It is an important force protector/combat multiplier and a
non-lethal weapons system.

Functions of ISPR:
1. Act as defense force's mouth-piece.
2. Keep the public informed of the activities of defence services, their scope
and importance, within parameters of security.
5. Maintain close liaison with official/ private news media and government
information agencies for exchange of information.
8. Publish pamphlets for distribution within the country and abroad for
projection of the Armed Forces. In addition, it also acts as a distribution
agent of Government publicity material among forces to keep them
informed about national policy.
10.To act as a bridge between Armed Forces and public and to make public
understand that Armed Forces are their extension, also perform as mouth
piece for Armed Forces.

11.Project positive image of Armed Forces to garner National Support in their
favor. Formulate media policy and evolve Psychological War plans in support
of own military strategy.
Divisions:
ISPR has an alpha division and beta division
Media monitoring and advertising. It monitors all the news papers, international
media, radio monitoring. They have separate night team and day team. Day team
comes in morning and prepares the summary of all the news so that the senior
officers can read the news paper. Night team monitors and prepares details for all
the talk shows on every channel.
Publications, press reviews, Hilal magazine, Psy Ops, analysis, planning, public
relations, embedding journalists with live operations.
