classroom to utilize for class purposes

Sometimes called BYOT (Bring your own


technology)
Cloud Computing
Computer access that utilizes storage in the
cloud

The cloud is remote storage that is accessed


through the internet
Digital Classroom
A classroom that is made up of mostly
technology and strays away from paper and
pencils

Can include software, apps, and other


technology
Digital Native
Someone who was born in the or after a time
where technology is very common

Most people assume that all digital natives are


very in tune with technology
Discussion Boards
Internet forums where individuals can post
things for others to read and comment on
others posts
E-learning
Learning that occurs through the use of
technology

Can be the internet, recorded videos, etc.


Flipped Classroom
A form of learning where students learn at home
(through e-learning) and then reinforce that
learning in the classroom setting
File Transfer Protocol
(FTP)
The transfer or exchange of files between
multiple computers when utilized a software that
enables this process
Instructional Technology
Technology that is used specifically for
educational purposes
Learning Management
System (LMS)
A piece of software that manages, analyzes,
and runs educational courses and training
programs. Also included are student
registration, curriculum management, skill &
competency management, and reporting
features.
Learning Portal
A website that offers access to learning and
training resources
Open Source Software
Software that is available and open to anyone
Personal Learning
Network (PLN)
An informal network of people that is
professional in nature and meant to aid an
educator in furthering his/her pedagogical
craft.
Peer-to-peer Network
(P2P)
A communication network that enables users to
connect their computers and share files directly
with other users without having to go through a
centralized server.
Student Information
System (SIS)
Software that manages student information

Can be grades, background information, etc..


Synchronous Learning
Learning that occurs simultaneously between
the teacher and the student

In an online atmosphere, this would most likely


be in the virtual classroom
Virtual Classroom
The online learning space where students and
instructors interact

The students can be called on and interact with


the teacher directly with no delay
