Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
Before the lesson we will have class discussion about what the key elements of a story are and why
they're important (settings, plot, problem/solution, etc.). Once the students have an understanding of a
story's components we will transition into reading a short story. As I read the short story to the students
they will be writing down important details they hear. Once the story is done I will ask the students if they
need to hear the story again. If not, then I will introduce the Socratives quiz. I will explain that now the
students will in a group randomly assigned by Socratives (this will help engage some of the students). Then
I will explain that they will be answering questions about the story and we will discuss after.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
X Assess prior knowledge Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) To illuminate common
misconceptions Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) Summative assessment of content knowledge Test preparation
Survey/Poll Discussion starter Homework collection Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

The students will have about 20 minutes to complete the series of questions. They will each have their own
iPad to complete the quiz on. As the students are finishing the quiz I will be looking at the results of the class.

Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?

Once the students have completed the series of questions I will collect the iPads to eliminate possible
distractions for students, and then we will participate in class discussion. First we will review the questions
that were most commonly missed, by discussing the correct answer and why the other answers could be
right but aren't the best answer.

How will the data be used?

The students average/ answers will be collected from the mini quiz they take. However, they will not
receive a grade for this assignment. Instead we will discuss the answers so students can benefit and further
their understanding. However, as the teacher I will take the data collected to improve the next SRT activity
the class participates in.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
My personal goal for this assignment is to help engage and motivate students. When students complete
quizzes, tests, or other assignments they can lose focus or have test anxieties. SRT activities are great for
engaging students. The SRT activity approach is also beneficial to students because they can see the results
and participate in discussion after theyve completed.
