ADVANCE MANUFACTURING TECHNIQUE

COURSE CODE( LCZ6C0)

1. Identify the characteristics of conventional machining
2. Identify the characteristics of non traditional machining
3.. Differentiate between conventional and non traditional machining
4.. Classify different non traditional machining processes
5.. Identify the need for non traditional machining processes
6.Draw variation in MRR with different process parameters
7.Define Ultrasonics and describe the process in which these are used to machine the
material
8. Sketch and describe any two type of tool feed system used in ultrasonic machining

9. Discuss the effect of the following parameters on working accuracy and rate of metal removal in
AJM

(i) Grain size (ii) Jet velocity (iii) stand off distance.

10.What is the principle of water jet machining. Write a notes on the special feature of the
equipment

Used in this method of machining.

11. What is the principle of electrochemical machining? what are the material commonly used for
making a tool for use in electrochemical machining. Is there any limitation on the type of material
that can be machined by ECM?

12.What are the specific advantage of using chemical machining over electrochemical machining?
Give some practical application of the chemical machining process.

13. write short notes on Application of electrolytic grinding process.

14. calculate the machining rate and the electrode feed rate when iron is electrochemically
machined, using copper electrode and sodium chloride solution (specific resistance= 5.0 ohm cm).
The power supply data of the ECM machine used are;

Supply voltage 18 V d.c. Current 5000 amp

A tool work gap of 0.5 mm (constant) may be assumed.

15. Estimate the material removal rate in AJM of a brittle material with flow strength of 4 GPa.
The abrasive flow rate is 2 gm/min, velocity is 200 m/s and density of the abrasive is 3
gm/cc.
3
16. Material removal rate in AJM is 0.5 mm /s. Calculate material removal per impact if mass
flow rate of abrasive is 3 gm/min, density is 3 gm/cc and grit size is 60 m as well as
indentation radius .
