2. KOMEN TENTANG PENTAKSIRAN


2.1 Model:
2.1.1 Model yang digunakan oleh pelajar:
Students have to do both models 1 and 2 in Form 4 but in Form 5, when they are
given a choice, model 4 (group) is their preference.
2.1.2 Kesesuaian model dengan pelajar
All models are suitable. Even though Model 1 tends to encourage students to
memorize, students are comfortable and able to carry out the task without many
problems. They have freedom to choose their own topic and they can express it
well.
2.2 Konstruk
(Kekuatan, Kelemahan dan Kesilapan)

2.2.1 Give appropriate response/Converse on a topic effectively


a. Strengths
Proficient candidates were able to give detail and appropriate responses especially
the topics that are familiar to them. The topics often discussed were on people and
family.

b. Weaknesses
Weak candidates often gave irrelevant responses and very limited development of
ideas. Most of them could not give immediate response by using English language
due to lack of confidence and less exposure to the language. There were many
incomplete sentences that made their presentation dull.
Some candidates did not even response as they did not prepare for the test and they
tend to depend on their mother tongue language.

c. Errors
Candidates often gave irrelevant answers, mixed with mother tongue language and
uncompleted sentences.

2.2.2 Speak fluently using correct and acceptable pronunciation


a. Strengths
Candidates spoke fluently only in simple sentences.
b. Weaknesses
Weak candidates struggled with the pronunciation. Mother tongue influence could
be detected.
The weak candidates made frequent errors in pronunciation due to lack of practice
and exposure to the language. Some candidates did not speak up due to lack of
confidence especially in front of their classmates. They were afraid that their friends
will make fun of them.

c. Errors
Candidates were influenced by mother by mother tongue language.

2.2.3 Speak Coherently


a. Strengths
Only good students scored good marks for this construct since they understood their
task and most importantly they were well prepared.

b. Weaknesses
Weak candidates could not remember their lines as they did not prepare well. Some
candidates could not even sustain their flow of ideas due to very limited vocabulary.

c. Errors
Candidates had difficulties in maintaining their flow of ideas due to limited
vocabulary and weak in constructing sentences.

2.2.4 Speak the language using a wide range of appropriate vocabulary within context.
a. Strengths
Good candidates use precise vocabulary and expressions appropriately and
effectively.

b. Weaknesses
Weak candidates lacked of vocabulary. Their sentences were too simple. Weaker
students were unable to produce the words until they needed help from the
teacher.

c. Errors
Candidates lacked of vocabulary

2.2.5 Speak using correct grammar


a. Strengths
Good candidates were able to use correct grammar in simple sentence structures.
Some good students prepared well and they used scripts which were taken from
books and other resources. Thus, the problems of making grammatical errors were
minimized.
b. Weaknesses
Weak candidates made consistent grammatical errors that disrupt meanings. They
were not bothered to do any preparation.
Many of the students tend to fall for simple sentences. They tend to translate
directly from mother tongue language.

c. Errors
Common errors include mother tongue language and slang.

2.2.6 Kriteria Penskoran

3. SARANAN KEPADA CALON


Candidates must attempt to response and converse
They have to be mentally prepared
They need to do extra reading so they can converse effectively
They need to listen and speak English language so that simple and common
expressions will not be a problem to them. Besides, they will be more confidence
with the language
They must equip themselves with common words in English

4. SARANAN KEPADA GURU


Teachers must emphasis on the important of ULBS
They should make it clear to the candidates all five constructs in ULBS so that the
candidates are aware of what they should focus on
Teachers must expose more English language inputs to the students
Teachers should build the positive attitude towards English language among
students
Teachers should provide the candidates with common English expressions, phrases
and the vocabulary lists
Teachers should create more opportunities for the students to practice speaking
English language
5. ISU DAN SARANAN PENAMBAHBAIKAN ULBS
Some candidates did not bother to do the preparation
Some candidates did not take ULBS seriously though being informed on the
importance of it
In some cases, the candi9dates did not bother to attend the test on the given date
because they were absented from school
Monitoring and coordination of these assessments should be taken seriously to
ensure the assessment are done correctly
There is a need to have a formal briefing on the important of ULBS to the candidates
by the administrators as well as PPD coordinators.

6. HAL HAL LAIN


To have a better result, candidates should be assessed by teachers from other
schools
