In the pantheons, for example, on the night of November 1, the relatives visit their
deceased. In the tomb they build their altars, they have dinner and spend the
night there, perhaps even accompanied by the music of the mariachis.
Commonly in the region of San Luis Potos it is common to place an altar of the
dead
The altar of the dead, also known as the Day of the Dead offering, is a
fundamental element in the set of Mexican traditions of the Day of the Dead,
which consists of installing domestic altars in honor of the dead of the family
where it is offered as a food offering, candles, flowers and everyday objects of the
deceased.
The offerings and altars have a great symbolism. In them are placed various
objects used by the deceased in life and those who will serve in the underworld.
For its elaboration flowers (cempaschitl, intense yellow flower that will guide the
souls of the dead) are used (sugar skulls, bread of the dead, pumpkin in tacha,
mezcal, atole, tequila) toys, candles, copal, salt, water, chopped paper, portraits
of the deceased or cigarettes.
Normally this celebration begins when a person of the house lights the candles of
the altar whispering the names of the deceased, prays asking God's favor so that
they arrive with good, the relatives sit down to the table and share the food
prepared for the feast, listening to the music of the deceased's liking, we talk
about the news of the family, the anecdotes of the deceased are remembered, and
the deceased's intercession to God is requested.
The celebration is a reunion, although brief, happy, with the promise of reaching
them in the hereafter, when the time comes.
At the end the candles are extinguished and the spirits are dismissed, wishing
them a good trip back to the beyond and asking them to return next year. In
addition to everything that takes the offering is distributed among the people who
made this event.
