TAKE-HOME MID TEST
1. Survey the text: read the text first and last paragraphs and the beginning
and final sentences of other paragraphs.
Do you have a very general idea of the structure of the text, what the
different parts are about?
4. Do a second more careful reading, marking any new words that are
important for your understanding. Check on the main idea and revise what
you wrote if necessary.
Decide what the subsidiary ideas are. How do they relate to the main
idea? Put all the idea together as an outline, or as a mind map.
Vocabulary
With the new words which you think are important: if the exact meaning is
needed, use a dictionary.
Difficult sentences
Divide the sentences where there are connectives or markers.
• What do the connectives means?
• Underline reference words. What do they refer to?
• Identify complex noun phrases.
• Expand those using verbs and/or relative clauses so that
they are easy to understand.
Find the subjects, verbs, and objects which go together, and, if necessary,
write the whole sentence out in several sentences to show the meaning.
5. Make a list of new words which you think will be useful in the future. Give:
• Definitions of the words
• Indication of whether they are nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc
• Phrases in which the words occurs
• Others words with the same meaning
• Others forms of the words
E.g. counselor (noun) = a person who gives help and support to people
who have problems, an adviser [counsel (noun), to counsel]
1. This text tells about Prambanan temple and pats of it. The text also
describes what beautiful that temple. The first paragraph explains about
the background of Prambanan temple. Next, the writer describe about
another temple, some statues, and some relief in Prambanan temple.
Finally the writer tries to invite the reader to visit Prambanan temple.
3. Main ideas of the text are structured well, they have relationship with each
other and they can not be separated.

I think this text constructive well. The writer starts from the background of
Prambanan, and then explains the parts of it one by one in a good way.
When I read the text at the first time, I thought that the text is an
informative text, because the text is full of information.
