Connecting and Introduction
This instruction is used to control a three-phase motor with a frequency inverter. The frequency
configuring inverter is supplied with a control panel for the necessary settings. See Figure 1.

Figure 1 Arrangement frequency inverter

First, you need to make at least one connection between the frequency inverter and the box with
switches to make the frequency inverter work.
You also need to make the necessary settings on the keyboard to make sure that the frequency
inverter is functioning properly.
The point of this assignment is that you learn yourself the basic features. So, try a few things
and ask your supervisor for help if you're doubting.

5
Connecting
Disconnect the frequency inverter power supply by extracting the plug from the wall outlet. Also
switch the motor protection switch for security reasons. Through the switches and potentiometer
we can operate the frequency inverter from 'distance'. This, of course, you will try out soon.

Figure 2 Connections

Connect the common connection of the gray box (see Figure 2) to the +24V exit 8 of the terminal
strip of the frequency inverter. Connect the switch to the terminal strip number 10. This is the
drive-enable connection. After this you are able to release the frequency inverter to work. This is
a kind of an on/off switch of the controller. Do not connect the rest of the switches. Be careful
that connecting a controller will not short a circuit! Now connect the inverter to the 230V outlet.
Then, turn on the MBS. Please ask your trainer for help if you have any doubts.
When you operate the switch you will see that the text in the display changes from ih to rd.
Drive-ready = rd = ready for use
Drive inhibited = ih = not ready for use

6
Keys and display
We're going to set up the controller using the keypad and display on the front, see Figure 3. We
work from the factory settings. That's why we put the controller back to the factory settings. We
will do this by setting up parameter 29. Therefore we go through some steps. An overview of all
parameters can be found in the parameter list in the end of this booklet.

Restore factory settings

To set up parameter 29 (P29), we seek access to the parameter menu by the use of the
following tasks.

Way to work
1. Operate the M key. The left display now changes from "rd" to a blinking parameter number.
2. By reaching the arrow keys "up" or "down" you have to try to reach parameter 29 (P29). It is
possible that after parameter 10, parameter 11 is not in the picture, but parameter 01. If so,
select parameter 10 and press the M key.
3. In the right display the value "L1" flashes. Operate the control button "up", in the display
"L2" appears. Gently operate the M key.
4. You now have access to the parameters 11 to 60. Use the control button "up" to reach
parameter 29.
5. Operate, if parameter 29 is reached, the M button briefly. The right display flashes the value
no.
6. Operate the arrow key "up" once. On the right side "Eur" flashes up right now. Operate the
red stop button for two seconds on the controller. The controller is now put back to the
European factory settings.
7. You leave the parameter menu by pressing the M key twice briefly. In the left display "rd"
appears again.

7
8. Operate the green start button on the controller again. Is it true that the controller does not
start up? That is because the controller is currently set up that it doesn't respond to the start
and stop buttons on the controller itself.

Starting up and stopping with the control panel

In order to operate the inverter with the start and stop button we should first tell him that he
should respond on these buttons.

Assignments
9. Under parameters 01 to 09 the most important parameters are grouped. First, let's find out
at which value these parameters are in the factory settings. Use the parameterlist to fill in
Figure 4.

10. Take a look at the descriptions of parameter 01 to 09. Do you have a suspicion with which
parameter you can ensure that the controller will respond on his controls?
11. Set this parameter up as "Path" using the M-button and arrow keys and leave the
parameter menu.
12. Press the green start button, what happens?
13. Operate the red stop button.
14. On which value is parameter 01 setted up?
15. Adjust it to 50 Hz and leave the parameter menu.
16. Is it able to use the inverter with the start and stop button?
17. At which frequency (Hz) is the motor currently running?
18. How many rotations are that for this motor (see nameplate)?
19. With which parameter can you set up the acceleration and deceleration time? Set these up
in 15 and 5 seconds. Do you notice any difference?
20. Stop the engine by breaking the "drive enable" (switch 1 on the control box). What is the
difference in behavior with the previous assignment?

8
Engine details
To let the inverter and motor work well together, the engine data must be entered.

21. Set the up the correct motor data of parameter 06 to 09 and note this in Figure 5. Note. The
power factor can be found under cos f or cos phi on the nameplate.

22. May the motor current of the frequency inverter be set up higher than the Inom of the
motor? Motivate your answer
23. Set up parameter 06 once at 0.4A and start the engine and run it for a long time. What
happens and what explains the error code list at the back of this booklet you about this?
24. With what kind of security of a standard motor circuit can you compare it?
25. Set up parameter 06 on the high current value of the motor.

9
Controlling via terminal strip
We can also tell the frequency inverter that he should not respnd on the start and stop button but
through connections via the terminal strip. In this way the inverter can be incorporated into a
complete controller.

Assignments
26. First, set parameter 05 up to value "AV.Pr". In this way you tell the inverter that he must
respond the connections on his terminal strip and can be controlled via a 0*10 V control
signal to adjust the speed.
27. Next, connect the potentionmeter (variable resistor) on the control box to the terminal strip
as shown in Figure 6.

Figure 6 Overview control terminals

28. Check whether the inverter is working if you turnover switch 1 on the control box. Why does
this not work?
29. Insert in Figure 6 the auxiliary connections, so you can run the engine clockwise and coun-
terclockwise via the countrol box.
30. Can you already regulate the speed with the potentiometer? Check the parameter settings
for the minimum and maximum frequency. Between what values can you adjust the speed
according the current settings?

10
31. Adjust the parameter settings so you can control the speed between 0 and 35 Hz.

32. Can you run the engine both clockwise and counterclockwise?

33. What happens if you drive both "Run ahead" and "Run reverse"?

34. Stop the inverter by turning off all switches on the control box. Disconnect the poten-
tiometer of the terminal strip of the inverter. Set parameter 02 up at 50Hz.

35. Set parameter 19, 20 and 21 up on, respectively, 35, 25 and 45 Hz and leave the parameter
menu.

36. Now turn on "Enable/inhibit" and "Run forward". What happens?

37. Drive "Preset selection 1". At what frequency is the motor running? What rpm is this?

38. Drive "Preset selection 2" instead of "Preset selection 1". At what frequency is motor
running now?

39. What will probably happen if you control both? Try this out.
40. Set the inverter back to the factory settings (parameter 29) and discuss your results with
your supervisor if necessary.
