Technical and Practical

Calculation of vibration isolation can be very complex and sometimes

requires different advanced tools, which are normally not used
during a simple selection of a mount. IAC Acoustics has the in-house
knowledge and also uses tools and software to find solutions to
complex installations requiring vibration or shock insulation when a
simple selection is not enough. We have assisted many clients in fine
tuning new products by doing what we call vibration engineering
which covers:

We undertake almost any case where vibration and shock engineering

is involved and cooperate with leading partners, acoustical consultants
and architects. Typically when a Finite Element analyses is required or
large scale measurements are needed, the consultant has a leading
role, due to the complexity.

Below are shown some examples of special projects, IAC Acoustics

has been involved in. They involve vibration isolation of foundations
from 20 tons to 500 tons and even advanced elements with a viscous
damping. These typical applications require high quality products and
high level of documentation.

Example 1: Noise attenuation in buildings by means of vibration

isolation can be obtained by:
Providing cast in-situ floating floor
Passive isolation of building elements
Mounting machines on inertia bases
Isolating flights of stairs to dampen step noise
Calculations of all different systems

Example 2: A tuned mass damper in steel section of footbridge.

This specially made damper combines a spring and viscous damping
system.

Cylindrical Rubber Mounts SD

Product Description

Cylindrical vibration mounts are manufactured from natural rubber,

vulcanised to galvanised steel plates with central male or female
threads. Available in different rubber compounds for environments
with oil or ozone, acid or for the food industry.

They are also available in different hardnesss where the standard

hardness is 45 Sh. The same mount in a harder compound can carry
more load.

Application
The SD range of mounts are mainly used to dampen noise and
vibrations from stationary machinery such as ventilators, pumps,
electric motors, converters and compressors.

It is constructed to be used in compression, but can handle minor

shear forces.

Also available in stainless steel

Machine Isolators ADF, ADM, ADP

Product Description

Cylindrical machine feet: ADM/ADP types are manufactured in

neoprene rubber, where the rubber is vulcanised onto galvanised steel
discs with a central thread.

Type ADF is manufactured in natural rubber.

Also available in AISI 304, AISI 316 stainless steel

When ordering, please use designations RADF, RADM and RADP for
stainless version.

Applications

Machine feet can be used for the absorption of noise and vibrations
from any installed machinery. The shape of the feet give the machine
feet a high static deflection and therefore excellent vibration
insulation.
GM

Type ADF is used for smaller machines, instruments, office machines

GS
as well as for household and hobby usage. Height

Type ADM/ADP is used particularly for punching machines, milling

machines, shearing machines, turning lathes, grinding machines,
L
routers, blowers, fans, compressors, convertors and many more.
Diameter
Type ADM/ADP can be used where cleaning fluids come in contact
with the rubber., due to their neoprene construction.

Accessories

Adjustable spindles and feet plates are available with types ADM and GM
ADP. These are used to link several machine feet if required.

Rubber Buffers GB

Product Description

Rubber blocks vulcanised to a galvanised steel plate with a central

thread. The rubber buffers are manufactured in natural rubber of
different densities.

Applications

Used to dampen all types of drop and impact shocks from cranes, rail
wagons and stopping mechanisms. The GB range of buffers absorb
the kinetic energy, minimising shock from the impact.
These rubber buffers can also be used in machinery as a limiting
element against any extreme oscillations for instance with the shifting
of resonance frequency or as part of a flexible guide rail.

Fitting

These rubber buffers can be fitted as required in either fixed or

mobile sections of machinery. If the buffer does not supply sufficient
damping, then two buffers can be fitted in series opposite each other
so that the necessary damping is obtained.

Polyetherurethane (PUR) Buffers PB

Material

Polyetherurethane
Hardness 65 - 75 Sh.
Temperature range: -40C to +80C
Short interval temperature up to +110C
Is resistant against oil and grease

Applications

Buffers can be used as end stops for traverse cranes and

elevators
Can also be used as machine feet
Below values apply to impact loads
Because the buffer can be compressed to such an extreme extent
it offers really good shock absorption
Is less suited for isolation of dynamic forces from vibrating
machines
The maximum compression force should not be exceeded

Compressions vs load-diagrams can be viewed on pages 22 - 23

Rubber Turret Mounts FAV

Order Information / Selection

Determine the number of isolators and the load per isolator prior to
selecting the correct mount. Then select the mounts that provide the
greatest deflection without exceeding the maximum allowable load on the
mount, by referring to the static deflection curves listed below.

Each mount is available in several different hardnesss to provide high

deflection for different loads for each size of mount. Once the mount is
selected, the deflection in mm can be found at the load. Referring then to
the nomograph on page 2 to identify the isolation efficiency.

When ordering, specify hardness. For example, FAV0400-60 for Max. load
500kg or FAV0050-40 for Max. load 40kg.

Sandwich Mounts VIKASH

Product Description

The VIKASH sandwich mount can handle large forces in compression,

both in terms of static load and shock. The mount also provides good
insulation when subjected to horizontal loads. The VIKASH mounts can
be mounted flat or in combination V where the mounts are angled
45 towards the centre of gravity. The structure consists of 2 outer
steel plates with 4 mounting holes, between round layers of rubber
separated vulcanised steel plates. Each size of mount is available in
2 or more rubber hardnesss, covering a load range between 2 and 30
tons.

Applications

High compression option, low transverse stiffness and relatively low

additional height makes SH mounts ideal for heavy machinery of
between 10 to 100 tons such as: large vibrator rollers, mills, presses,
turbines, and generators. Load (kg) VIKASH

Rubber Metal Rails GMS

Product Description

The standard rails are made in natural rubber vulcanised to

1 or 2 steel rails.

The rails can are made in 3 hardnesses:

45 Sh.
55 Sh.
65 Sh.

They are also available in stainless steel with neoprene

rubber for installations where oil or ozone are present.

Our rails are especially suited for the isolation of heavy equipment.
Since the rails can be cut to any size, the isolation of foundations,
lathe machines, mills, punching machines or any other suitable
application, can be individually designed. In addition to being able to
tailor the length of the rail, holes can also be drilled and threads cut
easily into this highly adaptable range of mounts.

Marine Mounts Small, Medium, Large, X-Large

Product Description

This mount is ideal for marine applications, particularly marine

engines, both main and auxiliary engines.

The mount is designed so that the horizontal stiffness in the x- and

y-axes are different, which in turn are also different from the vertical
stiffness. This provides marine engines with a good relation between
how flexible the set up is in the direction of propeller thrust, engine
torsion and engine load.

Technical characteristics

Top metal part protects the rubber against fuel and oil
Metal parts are electro galvanised
The Marine mount is a secured mount designed to ensure that
the top and bottom mounting plates are always connected, even
M
when subjected to high shock loads
The base plate is marked with mount type and hardness, making
them easy to identify even after many years of use

B
The different degrees of stiffness in each axis, gives a stiff mount
in parallel with the propeller axel, so it can absorb the pressure
A
force from the propeller and lower stiffness perpendicular to the
engine crankshaft. The Marine mount has a different stiffness in
the 3 axes, providing long life for couplings and bearings, as well
J F
as effective vibration isolation for marine engines.

G
C

Applications

In rotating machinery, which requires a good degree of vibration D

isolation and different stability in the 3 axes. Especially suited for
marine applications such as ship engines in relation with ship
propellers.

Hydromounts Mini, Small, Medium, Large

Product Description

Hydromounts consist of a spring and a hydraulic shock absorber

assembled in a single compact unit.

To achieve good insulation, low attenuation is required, and to restrict

movement, high attenuation is required. Hydromounts work with these
2 conflicting factors so the optimum conditions are achieved.

Technical Characteristics
The Hydromount is a secured mount designed to ensure that
the top and bottom mounting plates are always connected, even
when subjected to high shock loads
The mount is very robust and is recommended for vehicles that
operate in uneven terrain
Metal parts are electro galvanised

Applications
Hydromounts are primarily designed for vibration isolation and
stability of cabs in vehicles used in rough terrain, agriculture, forestry,
etc. In addition to vibration isolation and stability the mount also offers
excellent comfort for the operator of the vehicle.

Hydromounts are also used to support engines that run at variable

speeds and have uneven forces. Examples of this could be one, two or
three cylinder engines. F

Flexible Bushings GE

Product Description

The GE range is an elastic bushing, consisting of two concentric

galvanised steel tubes, with a layer of tensile rubber compressed in
between.

Applications

The elastic bush works very well as a flexible connection between

machine parts. Since it is the rubber that takes up movement, there is
no need to grease the bedding or any other maintenance routines.

The elastic bushing also has good vibration and noise reduction
qualities that will make machinery more pleasant to work with.
Examples of use are in the flexible connectors in cars, train carriages,
tractors, agricultural machines etc.

Conical Mounts Cone

Product Description

Cone mounts are specially designed to insulate against medium to

high frequencies.

Rubber is bonded to two concentric tubular metal parts. The inner

metal part is a conical tube. The outer metal is also tubular and has
a flange with mounting holes. This mount comes with washers for
mounting.

Technical Characteristics

The conical absorber is a safe and stable mount because it does not
allow the equipment to overturn or tilt. They are also flexible enough
to prevent transmission of sound and vibration through the structure.

The 2 mounting washers protect the rubber against ozone, ageing and

Conical Mounts AT

Product Description

The AT range of mounts are specially designed to insulate against

medium to high frequencies.

Rubber is bonded to two concentric tubular metal parts. The inner

metal part is a cylindrical tube. The outer metal is also tubular with a
flange with mounting holes.

Function and assembly

When mounting, we recommend using a washer at the top so that

there is equal pressure on the upper part. We also recommend using
a washer at the bottom so the mounting bolt cannot be drawn through
the mount by shock loading.

Technical characteristics Applications

The radial elasticity of the AT range is of its axial elasticity. It is AT mounts can be used where there is a requirement for minimal
manufactured in three different hardnesss. Soft: hardness A (45 Sh.), equipment height increase and high radial stability, which this mount
Medium: hardness B (60 Sh.), Hard: hardness C (75 Sh.). provides.

Seismic Spring Mounts SSM

Product Description

The anti-seismic range of vibration isolators is designed for

installations in seismic zones.

When a seismic event occurs, the anti-seismic design prevents

installation failure in a horizontal direction. They can reduce the
vibration passed to the equipment and vice-versa reduce equipment
vibration passing to the structure, this can also have the effect of
prolonging the life of the equipment.

They are composed of a lower body and upper cover each with
a rubber facing mat. The two-part connecting guide pillars join
the upper cover and lower body together. the design is capable of
withstanding the horizontal forces from seismic events. The rubber
mat on the base and top plates aid in isolating against higher
frequencies and also have anti-skid properties. Use the below tables

Cabinet Mounts Rahbek

Product Description

Two adjustable galvanised, curved metal fittings with a vibration

absorber in between. The fittings allow adjustment of the angle
between the vibration absorber and direction of load, so that the
maximum vibration insulation can be achieved.

Maximum axial load: 15 40 kg

Maximum axial distortion: 3.0 mm
Maximum radial load: 4 8 kg
Maximum radial distortion: 5.4 mm

Applications

Mainly for light equipment and machinery such as suspended cabinets

containing machinery, electronics, alarm systems, automation
instruments, computer equipment and many more, that are sensitive
to shock and vibration.
V1 V2

Can also be used to protect components in a ships machine room and

is ideally used to insulate passive equipment against vibrations from
rotating machinery.

When installing the Rahbek mount it is possible to adjust the natural

frequency of the system in horizontal, vertical and lateral direction
and thereby optimise the vibration insulation in all these directions.

Mounting

This mount is fixed between the wall and the apparatus, as it is shown
in the figure to the right. The axial direction of the vibration mount
should pass through the centre of gravity of the apparatus. The degree
of resilience of the mount, and therefore the natural frequency, can be
regulated as V1 and V2 can be adjusted. 20 50 B

V1 and V2 should be situated at intervals of 0-45 and 22-45 P max

respectively. The radial stiffness of the absorber is 1/6 of the axial, so M6

when loaded it should be mainly in the direction of compression.

Ribbed Rubber Pad RG 8

Product Description

RG8 ribbed pad is composed of a neoprene rubber, which has good oil
/ fuel resistance and is anti static with a hardness of 50 Sh.

The plate has ribs running lengthwise on one side and crosswise on
the other.

Applications
The RG8 pad is mainly used for the insulation of vibration in the
40-50 Hz and higher range.

Higher deflection can be obtained by layering plates on top of each

other. To calculate the vibration isolation for more layers just find the
total deflection and look at the chart on page 2.

The pad is particularly well-suited if a machine needs to have a

relatively fixed base and at the same time requires insulation against
structural noise.

The pad is used in connection with tool machines, printing machines,

textile machines, lifts and similar equipment.

Specification
Load (kg/cm2)
4
RG 8
The area of pad required is determined by the load. The normal static
load is 3.5 kg/cm where the deflection obtained is 1.2mm.

The RG8 pad can withstand a maximum load of 4.3 kg/cm for a
shorter period of time

Fitting
The RG8 pad can normally be fitted between the machine and the 0

underlying base. The rubber pad in many cases removes the need for
Deflection (mm)
bolting and thereby avoiding bolt holes in the floor or building.

If more than one layer is used, then a 1-2mm steel plate must be used
between each layer to ensure a steady foundation.

The panel is best cut with a damp, sharp knife. If the cut piece of
plate is 5-10 mm larger than the machine foot it will increase the
adhesiveness of the rubber to the floor.

Dimensions
Pads are available in standard sizes of 500 x 500 x 8mm

Vikas Mafund Pads MF

Product Description

The Mafund plate is manufactured in two types with the same

hardness of 45 Sh.

The solid Mafund plate is 15mm thick (MF15) and is best used where
there is a very high load of up to 54 kg/cm2 and is made from natural
rubber.

The hollow Mafund plate 25mm thick (MF25) gives a relatively high
deflection. The plate can hold a load of up to 5 kg/cm2 and is made of
SBR rubber.

Applications
The Mafund plate is used for the vibration insulation of larger and It is possible with both types of panel to obtain higher degrees of
heavy machinery, typically under a concrete base. The plates can also deflection by layering panels on top of each other. For example look at

of concrete.
Dimensions
Specifications MF15: 500 x 250 x 15mm (Mafund solid)
The area of panels required is determined by the load. The normal MF25: 500 x 250 x 25mm (Mafund hollow)
static load distribution for a hole MF25 plate (50 x 25 cm) is 5 kg/cm2, MF50: 500 x 250 x 50mm (Mafund hollow)
which gives a deflection of 2.7 mm.
