The weights of tanks and other containers, and of their contents, are to be considered as
permanent actions. These loads shall be calculated for the cases when a tank or container is full and
when it is empty.
The loads from machinery and equipment are generally given on FLS GA and OL drawings. The
specific loads are listed in section 3.1.2.
29
Project
If not otherwise indicated on FLS drawings, the following floor loads are used as minimum loads:
P1 and P2 single forces shall not be assumed acting at the same time, or acting at the same time
with the evenly distributed loads:
Moving load in the bottom flange of a steel lattice girder (in addition to LL1): 10.0 kN
Reduction in loading on columns and foundation:
The reduction given in below table (based on the number of floors qualifying for load reduction
carried by the member under consideration) may be applied to the uniform floor load when
designing columns and foundations. No reduction in loading on beams is allowed.
30
Project
Crane load:
FLS drawings usually specify maximum wheel loads and wheel distance. Unless otherwise specified
the static wheel load shall as minimum be increased for impact as follows:
The maximum static wheel loads are increased as follows for impact:
30 % for electrical overhead cranes (Class HC4)
10% for hand-operated cranes (Class HC1)
The following percentages of the maximum static wheel loads are assumed:
The above loads are to be applied to the top of the rail, on each side of the runway, and are
considered to act in either direction normal to the runway beam.
Longitudinal loads:
The following percentages of the maximum static wheel loads are assumed:
- 12.5 % for electrical overhead cranes
5% for hand-operated cranes
The above horizontal loads are to be applied to the top of the rail, on each side of the runway,
and are considered to act in either direction parallel to the runway beam.
The above loads are assumed to act in conjunction with the vertical loads when designing
crane girders and supports.
31
Project
Hoist load:
FLS drawings usually specify the load to be lifted. The weight of the hoist itself shall be added to
this load. Unless otherwise specified, the total wheel load shall be increased as follows due to
impact:
Silo loads:
Silo loading data shall satisfy BS EN 1991-4:2006 (Actions on structures, part 4: Silos and Tanks)
and supplemental regulations for load assumption for silo cells. All conditions must be taken into
account for filling and discharging of materials as well as the respective dynamic and the impact
effects.
32

The live load on the platform is insignificant for the overall design of the piers.
