Implementation:
Introduce memory words
o Have students volunteer to think of sentences for each spelling word and spell the word
after they have said a sentence

o Sometimes words have the z sound but are spelling with an s

Circle the letter in these words that makes the z sound
Do first one together
o Quiz (circle z)
o Whiz (circle z)
o This and Bus make an s sound so we do not circle the s
in them
Do second one together
o His (circle s)
o Was (circle s)
o Us and Gas make and s sound so we do not circle the s in
them
students do last one on their own
check answers after everyone has finished
o What does plural mean?
more than one
when a word ends in s or es usually it means that that word is plural
go over examples
boat vs boats
lunch vs lunches
go over what each box says
have students work independently to draw pictures for each box
check answers once everyone is done
o Underline plural words
do first line together as a class
have students do the rest independently
check answers when everyone is done

If there is still time at the end of the workbook page, have students either play sparkle or play the
chair game (each chair worth 15, 10, or 5 pts.) to continue practicing spelling words
