Nouns having only the Singular.

News,money,information,advice,dominoes,darts,physics,billiards
etc.

1.Some nouns end in ics- but are not usually plural( electronics , politics,
gymnastics, physics etc.). They take a singular verb.
Ex. Physics is my favourite subject. /Gymnastics is important for our health.

2.Words denoting certain games(dominoes, billiards, darts etc) , subjects


( maths ,arts , etc.) end in s- but are not plural. They take a singular verb.
Ex. Maths is not as difficult as physics ./ Dominoes is an interesting game.

3.The word money has always a singular form and always takes a singular verb.
Ex. Where is my money? / There is much money in the wallet.

4.The words advice , information are uncountable nouns. Thats why they have
only the singular. They take a singular noun. To show the exact number of advice
or information we can use the word piece:
- a piece of advice/ information
-two pieces of advice / information
Ex. My information is that he is in London. / My advice to you is to learn better.

5.Although the word news ends in s- it is not plural. It takes a singular verb.
Ex. There is interesting news on television now./ The news is wonderful.

Nouns having only the Plural.


Jeans, trousers, glasses, scissors, spectacles, scales,
people(persons), police etc.

1.Things that have two parts(trousers, jeans, pyjamas, glasses, scissors,


binoculars, scales etc.) are plural and they take a plural noun.
Ex. My trousers are worn out. / Scales are usually used in shops.
Grandmas glasses are broken. / The scissors are on the table.

2.The words police and people(persons) have a singular form but take a plural
verb.
