FABRICATION AND INSTALLATION OF WOODEN DOORS

1.0 OBJECTIVE

1.1 Is to define the requirements for fabrication, supply and installation of wooden
doors including fire rated for the buildings under the contract no GTC.101/ED/01
Engineering, Procurement, Installation and Commissioning (EPIC) of Ras Laffan
Utilization Project Buildings and utilities and support service Phase 1-Utilities.

2.0 SCOPE

2.1 Procurement of timber/plywood, fabrication, supply and installation of wooden

doors including fire rated for the buildings in Service Base Area, Service Berth,
F.S.O Marine area and Telecom building.

4.0 PROCEDURE

4.1 All the materials, which shall be used for fabrication of doors, frames,
architraves shall be approved QP prior to start manufacturing.

4.2 The timbers used for doors shall be free from unsound knots, deadknots,
loose knots and knotholes. It should also be free from decay and insect attack
other than pinholes.

4.3 All structural timber and soft wood for permanent incorporation in the works
shall be treated for protection from degradation by wood destroying organism.

4.4 Protection against fire shall be by vacuum pressure process carried out in
accordance with the manufacturers recommendations.

4.5 The certificate of treatment of timber in accordance with the specification shall
be provided with every consignment of treated timber delivered.

4.6 Treatment is to be carried out after all cutting and shaping has been
completed. If subsequent cutting of the timber is unavoidable all freshly

exposed surfaces shall receive a liberal application of the preservative

recommended in the relevant treatment specification.

4.7 The plywoods used shall be free from bow, twist and warp. The core in 3-ply
shall not be more than 60% of the total thickness.

4.8 All plywoods thicker than 10 mm shall be made of not less than 5 plies.

4.9 Flush doors shall be plywood faced on both faces with hardwood lipping to all
edges.

4.10 Openings for glazing in fire check flush doors shall be fitted with hardwood
glazing beads both sides minimum 25 mm thick, fixed with brass screws and
cups.

4.11 Timber for carpentry shall be in continuous lengths in one piece wherever
possible.

4.12 All joints shall be glued and screwed or dowelled and in work which is
exposed to the weather or internal wet areas they shall be glued with WBP
Grade glue.

4.13 All works shall be prepared, framed up and put together at the earliest time
possible and placed in a drying room for as long as practicable before being
wedged or glued up.

4.14 All joinery work shall be taken approval from QP Engineer before being fixed
in place.

4.15 All the dimensions shall be verified on site prior to fabrication and installation.

4.16 Exposed and semi-concealed joinery shall be planed and sanded to remove
all machinery and other surface defects so that after application of the
specified finish imperfections in manufacture will not be apparent.

4.17 Architraves, cover fillets and the like shall be accurately shaped to fit the
contour of any irregular surface against which they are required to form a
close connection.

4.18 Where possible joinery for painting shall be primed before delivery to site, and
where this has not been carried out shall be primed as soon as possible after
delivery and approval shall be taken from QP Engineer.

4.19 All joineries shall generally be secured with nails, masonry nails may be used
to secure joinery timber directly to concrete or blockwork.

4.20 Hardwood joinery and other timber which is polished or clear finished shall be
secured with screws and with plastic plugs where fixed to concrete or
blockwork. The heads of the screws shall be counter sunk below the finished
surface and covered in a matching timber pellet glued in and finished
perfectly flush and smooth.

4.21 On completion of fixing of doors/joineries, final inspection shall be carriedout

and approval shall be obtained from QP engineer.
