I. Polygon law of forces

II. Lamis theorem
III. Triangle law of forces
IV. Parallelogram law of forces
V. Newtons laws of motion
VI. Coplanar concurrent forces & coplanar non-concurrent forces

1(b). Write down equilibrium equations for 2-D coplanar system of forces. (2)

1(c). How many unknown support reactions can be written for hinged support and fixed support? (2)

Note: Attempt any FOUR questions only.

1. Determine the support reactions for the beam loaded as shown in fig. below (16)

2. Determine the reactions at beam support for given loading condition (16)

3. Determine the support reactions for the beam loaded as shown in fig. below (16)
4. Two beams AC and CD are hinged at C and are supported by rollers at A and D and a hinge support is
provided at B as shown in fig. Determine the reactions at hinge C and at support B, when a load of 600
N is acting at point E. (16)

5. A light string ABCDE whose extremity A is fixed, has weights W1 & W2 attached to it at B & C. It
passes round a small smooth peg at D carrying a weight of 300 N at free end E as shown in fig. If in the
equilibrium position, BC is horizontal and AB & CD make angle of 150 & 120 with BC, find:
I. Tensions in the portions AB, BC & CD of the string and (16)
II. Magnitudes of weights W1 & W2.

6. Determine the magnitudes and direction of the resultant of a system of four coplanar concurrent forces
as shown in fig. below (16)
