JOHANNESBURG aa Ula wis Objectives of Bursaries ¢ To promote and reward academic excellence at the University ° The objectives will be met by providing merit bursaries to registered undergraduate students. Merit Bursaries Merit bursaries will automatically be granted based on final Grade 12 results. M-Score (All students who matriculated prior to the year 2008) The M-Score will only be calculated on the six best matric subjects passed. The M-Score is calculated as follows: Symbol Obtained Standard Grade Higher Grade A (80-100%) 4,0 5,0 B (70-79%) 3,0 40 C (60-69%) 2,0 3,0 D (50-59%) 1,0 2,0 E (40-49%) 0,0 1,0 In calculating the M-Score for the additional R5485 bursary, The score value for 90% and higher will be 6 for higher grade and 5 for standard grade subjects. A+ (90-100%) 5,0 6,0 Ta Nae Merit bursary criteria: Candidate's M-Score Bursary value is based on a specific curriculum's tuition fees Under 23 No bursary 23-25 30% 26-28 50% 29 75% 30 100% Higher than 30 100% + R5485 Students with an M-Score higher than 30 must apply at the Bursaries for the additional R5485. APS Score (All students who matriculated in the year 2008 and later) The APS Score will only be calculated on the best seven grade 12 subjects obtained, excluding Maths paper 3. The APS Score is calculated as follows: Symbol! If the outcome amounts to a 0.5 the outcome is rounded up (e.g. 7/2=3.5 the score will be 4). Formal Diploma bursaries (second- and third-year students) Merits are calculated as follows: Criteria Bursary value 75-79% weighted aggregate R4230 80-84% weighted aggregate R5440 85% weighted aggregate and higher R9060 Special merit bursaries are awarded to students who have attained 85% and higher in their previous year of university study in all subjects R15 095 Undergraduate degree bursaries (second- and third-year students) Merits are calculated as follows: Criteria Bursary value 70-74% weighted aggregate R4230 75-79% weighted aggregate R5440 80% weighted aggregate and higher R9060 Special merit bursaries are awarded to students who have attained 80% and higher in their previous year of university study in all subjects R15 095 ee Honours and BTech bursaries (Bases on third year results) Merits are calculated as follows: Criteria Bursary value 70-74% weighted aggregate R6580 75% weighted aggregate and higher R8770 Special Honours bursaries Enquire at the relevant Faculty. Master's level bursaries (Based on Honours results) Merits are calculated as follows: Criteria Bursary value 70-74% average R7130 75% average and higher R10 970 Doctoral level bursaries (Based on Master's results) Merits are calculated as follows: Criteria Bursary value 70-74% average R10 970 75% average and higher R16 460 Bursaries to representative councils of schools These students have to apply for this bursary at the UJ Bursary Office. The headmaster of the school/ college has to confirm the position in writing before the award will be made. Sports bursaries Sports bursaries are awarded by the Sport Bureau. Application forms are available from their office. 011 559 3070. External Sponsor Bursaries and Loans Application forms are available on UJ web — www.uj.ac.za. Refer to the External Sponsor Bursaries and Loans booklet for more information.
