Treatment for tumors

regular basis

- If its benign the doctor will most likely go with a watch and wait approach

-in some cases tumors might never need to be treated. Treatment can
sometimes be more dangerous than letting it be.
-if the tumor needs treatment the specific treatment will depend on where the
tumor is located

Radiation therapy
- Radiation therapy uses high energy radiation to shrink tumors and kill cancer cells. X-
rays, gamma rays, and charged particles are types of radiation used for cancer
treatmentsystemic radiation therapy uses radioactive iodine, that travel in the blood to
kill cancer cells.

Facts

More than any other cancer, brain tumors can have lasting and life-
altering physical, cognitive, and psychological impacts on a patients life.
o This means malignant brain tumors can often be described as equal
parts neurological disease and deadly cancer.

Even benign brain tumors can be deadly if they interfere with portions of the
brain responsible for vital bodily functions.

There are more than 140 different types of brain tumors, many with their
own multitude of subtypes.

Despite the amount of brain tumors, and their devastating prognosis, there
have only been four (4) FDA approved drugs and one device to treat
brain tumors in the past 30 years.
o For many tumor types, surgery and radiation remain the standard of
care.
