Summary of discussion:
It took over 30min to settle students, conduct the warm up and explain
the explicit teaching focus. This allowed for 10-15min of independent
working time and then a very quick reflection as students were rushing
out for lunch. Boys dominated the voice in the class and your time. You
moved mainly within the inner circle of students.
Questions from observation:
What are your classroom rules?
What are your classroom consequences?
How are students held accountable for their choices, behaviours and
work ethic?
How is their learning successful?
How do you know and how do you record their success or concerns?
Was your four part lesson plan followed and did you feel successful?
Reflection/Actions Arising:
Reflecting on my conversation with Sue, going forward I would like to
re-visit classroom expectations and shorten the time it takes to get into
the independent activity.
I will also work on moving within the inner circle of the room as well as
the outer circle of the room in order to ensure my presence is felt by all
students and that I am accessible to each student.
