Individual Professional Growth Plan 2017-2018

Name: Ms. Lucia Sherban

GOAL NUMBER ONE: To improve student engagement and subsequent student

understanding of specific learner outcomes in Math 20-2 by the end of the
semester by implementing visible thinking routines.

Relevant Teacher Quality Standard KSAs: (SEE ATTACHED BELOW)

Teachers demonstrate that there are many approaches to teaching and learning. (i)

Strategies: Describe how you plan to work toward this goal

1. I will work to include one visible thinking routine in my upcoming unit, and gradually
incorporate more than one visible thinking routine in my later units.
2. I will seek out resources and advice from other teaching staff and learning coaches who
have more experience using visible thinking routines. This will introduce me to certain
visible thinking routines that I may not be aware of, and it will allow me to execute the
activities to the best of my ability.

Measure(s): How will you know if you have made progress toward/achieved this goal?

1. I will measure student understanding by analyzing their summative grades as the

semester goes on. If the marks correlate positively with the amount of visible
thinking routines being done in class, then I will see that the visible thinking
routines have been effective in helping students attain a deeper understanding of
content material.
2. I will record anecdotal notes of students engagement throughout the semester.
This will occur during visible thinking routine activities and other class activities. I
will compare the two notes at the end of the semester and analyze whether or not
students were more engaged during the visible thinking routines than they are
during other activities.

Resources: What resources do you plan to use to assist in the achievement of this goal?

Access to PD resources, continuation of collaboration with other teaching professionals, visible

thinking routine websites (i.e. Tap Into Teen Minds), and any other resources not identified at
this time.
