Eight People Completed AED Training
Eight people completed Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training at
Emmanuel Church on September 28, 2017. Now these folks will be able to step in
should someone at church or the food pantry have a heart attack or even
symptoms of an attack. They have been trained in emergency CPR and in the use
of the AED device and help to save a life. Sudden cardiac arrest can occur at any
time. With AED training, you too can be part of that chain that can lead to a
successful recovery in case of an emergency. A similar class will be offered at St.
Andrew's and again at Emmanuel in the future. If you are interested, please stay
tuned for more information.

New York Pizzeria and Restaurant

We want to take some time to thank Frankie and Betsey and Rosario for all the
hard work they do for the New Berlin Community. But we especially want to
thank them for the catering they do for churches in the area during times of
grief, such as funerals. Their willingness to step in with warmth and food make

Communication Changes
Pretty soon you are going to be seeing some changes in the way we communicate. We are working on redesigning the
church bulletins to be more open and friendly for people who arent used to all of our jargon and prayer books and hymnals.
These new bulletins will be a bit more full service. Also, we will be launching a new look for the Newsletter: The Big Red
Door! That will be fun. And on a more serious note, we will be getting a new phone system at Emmanuel. This will contain a
hot line for people to leave emergency calls that will send emails and voice mails to church staff wherever they are. After
that we will begin work to design ways for St. Matthews and St. Andrews so that those calls can also roll over to this new
system. NOTE: this will NOT mean a change in numbers, only a way to expedite the flow of information.

Spirit of Christmas
Fr. Steve met with Mayor Terry Potter of New Berlin to talk about that community's annual Spirit
of Christmas. Each year the village, churches, Chobani, and other organizations come together
to provide food baskets and toys to families in need during the Christmas season. Along with the
toys and food, St. Andrew's and other churches will be collecting socks and underwear for
children from toddlers to teens. We encourage all of you to consider participating in this worthy
cause next time you are at the Wal-Mart or Target or wherever, think about buying a pack of
socks and underwear and getting them over to St. Andrew's. You can always give them to Fr.
Steve he'll be happy to deliver them.

Prayer Book 101

Fr. Steve will begin his Prayer Book 101 class A Romp Through the Prayer Book. This class is based on the Latin phrase:
Lex Orandi, Lex Credendi What We Pray Is What We Believe. Our beautiful Book of Common Prayer isn't just words.
Those prayers and liturgies form the core of our theology. In the class Fr. Steve will cover Baptism, Eucharist, Reconciliation,
the church calendar and church colors, Holy Week and much, much more. These classes will begin December 6 and
continue at least until Epiphany and will be held at St. Andrew's at 7:00 p.m. each Wednesday. There is no cost and no
materials (other than a prayer book, and we've got those!). A similar class will be held over Lent at Emmanuel in Norwich.
