University of the Philippines Diliman Muslim Students Association

(UPD MSA)

History

The University of the Philippines Muslim Students Association (UP MSA) was established in the
1960s and was formally recognized in 1983. Since its birth, it has served as a venue for understanding
between Muslims and non-Muslims.

Objectives and Principles

1. To arouse a proper and meaningful Islamic consciousness among the Muslims and the non-
Muslims in the university
2. To provide a venue for articulation of different ideas, issues and problems which confront
the Muslim Ummah
3. To promote socio-political consciousness and concern for the Muslim Ummah among the
Muslim students in the university
4. To preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the Muslim Filipino
5. To coordinate with external entities for the promotion and achievement of the
organizations objectives
6. To serve as a venue for unity, camaraderie, friendship, academic independence and synergic
cooperation for the noble endeavors among the Muslims in the university

Academic ACLE 2017 Ingud The Alternative Classroom Learning October 12,
Ami: Stories of Experience for this semester aims to tackle 2017
Marawi the issues faced by the Muslim community
in Marawi due to the war.
Organization - Acquaintance Party This aims to strengthen the camaraderie of October 29,

Community Dar Amanah The organization annually does a community March

madrasah of Muslim children.
Advocacy and Islam Awareness The Islam Awareness Week is a week-long April 2018
Extension Service Week 2018 event of the organization. It aims to
showcase the advocacy of the organization:
to arouse proper and meaningful Islamic
consciousness among the Muslim and non-
Muslims in the university; and to generate
ideas and opinions regarding issues
confronting the Muslim society.
Organization - Year Ender This event will serve as venue for evaluating May 2018
Capacity Building the activities and achievements of the
organization throughout the academic year.
Advocacy and Dawah Sessions This aims to arouse a proper and meaningful Monthly
Extension Service Islamic consciousness among the members.

Advocacy and Tajweed Sessions This aims to arouse a proper and meaningful Monthly
Extension Service Islamic consciousness among the members.

Organization - General Assemblies The monthly general assembly serves as a Monthly


Capacity Building venue for planning and evaluation of past,
current, and future activities.
Organization - Alumni Homecoming The event's purpose is for the current TBA
Capacity Building members and the alumni of the organization
to reconnect and strengthen bonds. Through
the event, alumni will be updated with the
achievements of the organization. This also
aims to find potential partners of the
organization and donators.
Organization - Immersion This activity aims to immerse the applicants TBA
Capacity Building with the committees of the organization and
to get to know the organization more.
