The Struggle of Moses

Moses was a Hebrew who eventually turns into the leader of the Hebrews and leads them

to justice and peace. Moses was part of the book Exodus, which told of the mass movement of

the Hebrews. Moses was the spokesperson of God and he also helped the Israelites escape Egypt

through the parting of the Red Sea. Moses was important because he led an entire nation across

Egypt, through Canaan, and after 40 years of wandering, he found Mount Nebo. Moses suffered

because he had to. Moses lead the Hebrews, therefore he had to take their suffering and make it

his own so he could lead them through the pain. He also suffered from the Pharaoh that beat and

killed the male Hebrew children.

Moses suffering was significant because he suffered to protect his people. Moses

endured the Pharaohs anger while pleading to have the Pharaoh set his people free. The meaning

of Moses suffering is that he has to pray and uphold the covenant that was placed on Abraham.

This means that Moses has to prove that he is worthy of the covenant and people still deserve

gods protection. Moses suffering eventually accomplished the mass Exodus of the Hebrews

escaping the Egyptian army trying to take them back. Moses suffered very much throughout his

life, and after all that suffering, he came out as an achiever and a perseverer.

Moses suffered many times throughout his story, but all those times it was because or for

his people. In one example, The Golden Calf, God gave Moses the ten commandments. When

Moses came back down the mountain, he saw that they had broken the first two commandments.

God sees that the Israelites were breaking the commandments and sent him back down to stop

them. Go down; for our people, whom you brought up out of the of Egypt, have corrupted

themselves.(135). This means that God is telling Moses that the Israelites are breaking

commandments that God just made and handed Moses to carry out so that the world wouldnt be

chaotic for the Israelites.

The meaning of Moses suffering is that he has to suffer for the actions of his people.

Moses doesnt really have his own personal suffering, he just takes the actions of the Israelites

into his own hands and makes their problems his. When Abraham made a covenant with God,

Moses has to keep it by worshipping God. Moses is Gods spokesperson, even though Moses

isnt the greatest speaker. Is there not Aaron, your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak

well: and behold, he is coming out to meet you, and when he sees you he will be glad in his

heart. And you shall speak to him and put the words in his mouth, and I will be with your mouth

and his mouth, and will teach you what you shall do..(112). This is saying that Moses is

supposed to be God's messenger, but he cant speak well enough to convince anybody. So Moses

is suggested to meet with Aaron and tell him what God said. Aaron and Moses are then to be

God's messengers together and carry out Gods bidding.

Moses strived to complete one major goal, which was to get all of the Hebrews out of

Egypt and to the promised land. The Pharaoh told Moses after all the plagues had finished and

The Passover had ended to leave and take his people and animals. Rise up, go forth from among

my people, both you and the people of Israel; and go, serve the Lord, as you have said. Take

your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and be gone; and bless me also!(120). Pharaoh

was saying that Moses has brought enough chaos through Gods wrath that Moses has to leave

and take his people with him. Moses happily complies and packs up and leaves alongside his

fellow Hebrews.

Over the course of his story, Moses proves again and again that he can deal with anything

thrown at him. Moses is a descendant of Abraham, meaning that he has a covenant to uphold his

end of. Moses deals with the Pharaoh to set his people free, then proceeds to lead on a wild

goose chase to find his promised land, only to find out that it wasnt very settleable. Moses is

perseverant throughout the entire story, proving that he is a strong-minded leader that wont give

up.
