REFLECTIVE JOURNAL
WEEK 9
(28th August 2017- 1th September 2017)
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Language art is one of the components in the teaching of English. This component
provides opportunities for pupils to use English through fun-filled activities that
stimulate their imagination and interest. It also encourages the pupils to plan, prepare
and produce creative pieces of work. However, I think that my teaching and learning
of language art lesson is more to visual art class. Sometimes, I feel that the product
that the pupil produces has less language values. When this happen, the pupils learn
less language input and get little knowledge about English information.
PROBLEM ANALYSIS
Among the language art activities that I had conducted are producing bookmark
and mask. In year 4 Pintar, the pupils were producing bookmarks. On the template,
there are only some pictures and shape. The pupils need to colour and design it on
their own. Plus, I also asked the pupils to produce their own mask with the theme of
Little Red Riding Hood story. The boys were producing the wolf mask while the girls
were producing Red Riding Hood mask. The pupils did enjoy the lesson but they
learn a lesser amount of English knowledge in the classroom.
There are several ways that could be done to overcome the problem mentioned
earlier:
a) Find the information from the internet on how to enhance language learning in
the language art teaching.
b) Adopt and adapt the previous language art teaching and make improvement to
add in the language value.
c) I will seek advice and guidance from teachers and lecturer about how to plan
and diversify the activities.
PERIOD OF TIME
I will try to solve the problem within a week. I realize that if I am unable to
manage this problem immediately, I might be facing other problems. If these problems
cannot be solved as soon as possible, the planned objectives are not fully achieved.
FURTHER ACTION
CONCLUSION
Fun and interesting learning is important as it can arouse the pupils attention.
However, the less systematic planning of the teaching process might lead to less
information of target language teaching. The language art class possibly will be more
to teaching art rather than teaching language.
