USP Compact Release Notes

CAUTION

Technical Bulletin Notice


This document represents the most current
information available at the time of this release.
Technical warnings, updates and bulletins will are
available in order to address potential concerns with
the USP product. You can obtain these updates from
our corporate website at www.NortelNetworks.com.
Select Search Support located in the Support
section on the left side of the page. This will bring you
to the Advanced Search window.
If you are not registered you can register by selecting
the Register link on the left side of the screen.
(Registered users have access to more information
which is not available to Guest users.)
Select Log in.
In the Any words field, enter USP.
In the This phrase field, enter Signaling Server.
From the Results should be drop down menu,
select in the product name.
From the Status drop down menu, select Active.

To specify a date range or a specific date, select the
Date or On or radio button. From the drop down
menus, select the date range or specific date.
Click on Search next to the Any words field.
A list of search results is displayed. To refine the
search results, click the Documentation link on the
top of the search results page. From the Refine your
search drop down list that appears, select Technical
Product Bulletins.
To further refine the search, from the second Refine
your search drop down menu, select a topic from the
Choose a topic to filter on drop down list.

Hardware changes
For release 10, see USPc10 hardware changes on page 4.

Limitations and restrictions


The following apply to the Universal Signaling Point Compact version
10 (USPc10.0) release:

Limitations

32 IPS7 paths per Ethernet port, for a maximum of 64 IPS7 paths


Only link types A and F are supported.

Restrictions
Each Ethernet port must be configured with auto-negotiate disabled from the far
end interconnect of the USP Compact. The ports on the far end should be set for
a speed of 100BT, duplex communications.
Gateway screening is not supported.
SCCP functionality is not supported.
Capability codes are not supported.
BERT functionality is not supported.
Virtual linksets are not supported.

The scheduled backup feature is not supported in this release of the USP
Compact.

USPc10 release notes


The following are the release notes for USPc10:

All rights reserved. All other trademarks are property of their respective
holders.

ATTENTION
The Java GUI can run on a customer provided
workstation if they meet the following
requirements:
Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000
Advanced Server or Solaris 2.8, Windows XP
Professional, and NT PCs. The Java GUI requires
the following system performance:
- minimum of 64 megabytes of RAM,
recommended 128 megabytes
- minimum of 100 megabytes of disk space to
install JRE and to store site configuration,
preferences and local logs required by GUI
application
- graphical window environment running at least
16-bit color depth

CAUTION
The Universal Signaling Point Compact node must
be running USPc9.0.5 or greater prior to starting an
upgrade to USPc10.

CAUTION

Do not use a USPc9 GUI to connect to a USPc10


load. The GUI must be upgraded to USPc10 prior to
connecting/upgrading to USPc10.

The following table lists the features introduced in USPc10.

Feature Description

Direct software This release of the USP supports direct, in-service software
upgrades upgrades from USPc9.0.5 (or greater Maintenance Release)
to USPc10.0..

Geographically This release supports a geographically diverse configuration


diverse where USPc cards can be installed in shelves located up to
configurations 120km apart. To support this configuration, each USPc must
be co-located with a CS2000 Compact call server.
