Question Rubric Score

Able to suggest two precautionary steps need to be taken to obtain
a more accurate value for heat of displacement.
3
Sample Answer :

1) Cover the polystyrene cup

2) Wrap the polystyrene cup with a piece of cloth
3) Use a plastic cup
4) Metals in powder form are used so that the reactions will
take a shorter time to complete, and thus less heat is lost to
the surroundings.
5) The initial temperature of CuSO4 solution is taken after a
few minutes to let the solution achieve a uniform
temperature.
1 (h) 6) The metals are added quickly to the solution to reduce heat
loss to the surroundings.
7) The mixture is stirred slowly throughout the experiment to
make sure the temperature of the solution is uniform.
8) The reading of thermometer is observed carefully so that
the highest temperature of the solution can be recorded.
This is done to ensure that the reactions are completed and
all the heat has given out.
