Donald C. Urfer & Associates, Inc. is pleased to submit our Statement of Qualifications for your
consideration. We are a structural engineering firm with over 35 years of continuous service to
the Monterey Bay area and beyond.
All engineering work will be completed in-house, by our full-time engineering staff who have a
combined total of 120 years working locally in the field.
Karen Urfer Wiinikka is the principal engineer and able to legally execute agreements and
amendments with the City of Carmel. Please find her signature below.

DONALD C. URFER & ASSOCIATES, INC., has been providing structured engineering
services in and around the Monterey Bay for the past 35 years. Located just a few miles from
Santa Cruz, we have completed a wide variety of projects including numerous schools, hospital
remodel and renovations, commercial buildings, industrial t~tcilities and seismic strengthening of
a variety or wood, concrete and unrcinlorced masonry structures. Projects have ranged in size
rrom the replacement or stairs at Cabrillo College to a new $90,000,000.00 high school.
Our firm has been involved in a number or unique projects requiring unusual and innovated
structural solutions. We have provided all structural cnginec.ring services to the Santa Cruz
Beach Boardwalk amusement park for over 25 years. Projects for the Boardwalk include among
others: replacement of the main boardwalk; remodel of the arcade and casino building; design of
the new Plunge building; and foundations for Hurricane, Jetstar, Typhoon, Double shot and
Explorer rides. We provide structural engineering services for all most exhibits and remodel
work at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. In addition we have worked on a number of miscellaneous
ocean front projects including the strengthening and seismic upgrade of portions of the Santa
Cruz Wharf, the design of several of the commercial structures atop the wharf, sea walls, and sea
cave plugs. In addition, we have provided the seismic upgrade to several historic California
Missions including Mission San Antonio, Carmel Mission and Mission San Juan Bautista.
The project engineers for Donald C. Urlcr & Associates, Inc. are Donald Urfer, Structural
Engineer and the linn Founder, Karen Wiinikka, Structural Engineer and the linn President, and
Scott Haggblacle, Senior Structural Engineer. With a nearly I00 combined years of structural
engineering experience, all three have extensive experience in the analysis and design of new
construction and lor strengthening and remodeling of existing building structures. All three have
at least a master's degree in engineering.
Mr. Haggblacle was a part-time faculty member in the Civil Engineering Department of San Jose
State University. He taught classes ranging rrom introductory engineering courses to a graduate
course in reinlorced masonry design and seismic retrofit of buildings.
The senior engineers at Donald C. Urfer & Associates, Inc. are supported by an exceptional staff,
including a dralisman with a degree in landscape architecture who is a master or both hand and
computer aided drarting.
