Bottlenecks of conventional water
treatment process

Conventional methods include Biological

process, Membrane filtration, Carbon
adsorption, Alum dosing etc.
Conventional processes are unable to
meet the complexity of present day
chemical / organic treatment.
Unable to remove color, bio-refractory
organics, solvents, SS to required extent.
Requires huge space and infrastructure.
Long holding / retention times
Sensitive to shock loads
Capacity bottleneck cannot be changed
as and when needed
Secondary issues like solid waste and
concentrate generation
De-bottlenecking wastewater treatment
using Electrochemical AOP

1. Electrochemical AOP system unselectively

destroys organics in wastewater
2. Process generates no solid waste
3. Effective for destruction of bio-refractory
organics
4. Effective for destruction of color
5. Improves the efficiency of Aerobic process,
enhances methane generation in An-aerobic
process.
Salient features:
a. Requires very less space
b. Can fit the existing process easily
c. Easily scalable
d. Distributed treatment possible

Comparison of Electrooxidation with
other Advanced Oxidation process

Electrooxidaiton operates at neutral pH as

compared to other AOP process requiring acidic
pH.
Radicals in Electrooxidation needs no additional
activators as compared to Iron in fenton,
peroxide in Ozonation.
Electrooxidation activates inorganics like chloride,
sulfate in wastewater to : generate secondary
radicals Other AOP are unable to generate such
secondary oxidants.
Most of the radical generation is in-situ, needing
hardly any additional chemical storage.
Operates at normal Voltages unlike hundreds of
voltage of Ozone generation.
Complementary to conventional process

C CO2 Electrooxidation

treatment
1. Making use of best of both worlds
2. Opens new avenues for Electrooxidation process
3. A unique solution to handle shock loads in biological system
