processing

2. What are four popular storage devices used today.

a. USB drives c.
b. cloud storage
c. internal and external hard disks
d. CDs and DVDs d.
3. List the three kinds of storage
a. Magnetic Storage
b. Optical Storage
c. Electronic Storage (sometimes called Flash Storage)
4. Define Magnetic Storage. A means of recording or saving data onto disks or tape by
magnetizing particles
5. List three storage devices that use magnetic storage.
hard drive floppy disk digital tape
6. A hard drive is a mass storage device located inside the computers system unit (tower).
7. An external hard drive has its own separate case and sits outside of your computers
system unit.
8. Floppy disks are becoming obsolete, which means they wont be around anymore.
9. What are magnetic tapes used for? Used by businesses to backup and archive large
amounts of data.
10. Define Optical Storage. Optical storage is the use of low powered lasers to save (burn) and
read data from CDs and DVDs.
11. CDs are used to store music, software, and documents.
12. CD storage capacity is from 650 Megabytes to 1 Gigabyte.
13. DVDs are used to Used to store videos and photos; allows for better graphics and greater
resolution photos.
14. DVD storage capacity is from Single Sided:4.7 Gigabytes to Multi-layer DVDs like Blue-
ray:Up to 500 Gigabytes.
15. How many times can you burn data to a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM? Read Only; can never save
to this CD or DVD
16. How many times can you burn data to a CD-R or DVD-R? Burn to once; thereafter read-
only

SD (secured digital) Cards Flash Drives Solid State Drives
21. Why is Electronic Storage faster? Faster because it does not
contain movable parts
22. Define Flash Drive. Faster because it does not contain
movable parts
23. Flash Drives can store anywhere from a few hundred
megabytes to 128 GB.

materials and have no moving parts.
28. What are the advantages of an SSD drive over a hard drive? Solid State Drives reside
inside the computer in place of the local hard drive; Faster than a hard drive because it
has no moving parts
