Useful information for exchange students

1. ENROLLMENT PROCEDURE
GO TO THE FACULTY/ACADEMY AT WHICH YOU WILL STUDY
In the UNIZG Welcome Leaflet you received the exact address and the name of the contact person for
international exchange students; if you are not sure or cannot find the Welcome Leaflet you may check
at http://www.unizg.hr/homepage/study-at-the-university-of-zagreb/degrees-studies-and-
courses/studies-and-courses-in-croatian/

DOCUMENTS TO BRING ALONG NEEDED


1. 2 photos (passport size)
2. fill in the enrolment forms (to be obtained at the faculty/academy you enrol)
3. buy the student book - so called INDEKS (price: 150HRK)
4. fill in computer forms to open an account (username and password)
5. get a stamp on the form for public transportation
All the enrolment forms and documents will be obtained at the Faculty when you arrive.

2. TAKE OUT THE TEMPORARY CROATIAN IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (SO-CALLED OIB)


This number is a prerequisite in order to be enrolled (put in the university administration system) and to
get the UNIZG computer account.
HOW TO GET IT
Collect the Form for OIB at the Faculty from your coordinator/contact person, have your passport/ID
card and then go to:

WORKING HOURS: 8am 3pm

3. PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
PROVIDER: ZET - Zagreb Electric Tram, Ozaljska street 105 - end station LJUBLJANICA
What to do to get a monthly tram pass for students
1. fill in the ZET-form (in the Information package), sign it and have it stamped by the student services
at the faculty/academy where you enrol make sure to write your temporary Croatian ID number, so-
called OIB under Number 4. in the form
2. 1 photo passport size needs to be stamped by the faculty/academy
3. issued and confirmed student book, so-called INDEKS
(needs to be presented as a proof of the student status when submitting the ZET-form)
4. COST: 30 HRK for the tram pass and 100 HRK for the monthly ticket
ZET-form needs to be submitted at the main (central) ZET building at the end station
LJUBLJANICA
(tram lines 3, 9, 12) - when you enter the building go to the ticket window No. 11.
WORKING HOURS: 7:30 am 3 pm
In the next months students can buy monthly tickets at ZET branches/offices all around the city
or at TISAK newsstands / shops. The ZET office nearest to the city centre is in Ulica Frana
Petria 4, working hours: 7.30am 5.30pm.

4. STUDENT CARD XICA


The student card, so-called xica, enables students to eat in student restaurants, get discount when
travelling, going to cinema, theatre, etc.
The Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sports allows a weekly subsidy to the following
categories of exchange students (BA & MA level): Erasmus+, CEEPUS and scholars of the Croatian
National Agency for Mobility and Programmes of EU.
All other categories of exchange students pay the full price of a meal.
The full price of the daily menu is 22,60HRK; students that receive a subsidy on the card pay 6.50HRK
whereas the rest (71,24%) is covered by the subsidy. Exchange students are entitled to a weekly
subsidy of 225,40HRK, i.e. 901,60HRK.
The student card is issued by the faculty/academy where students enrol and it works as of the semester
start.

5. TEMPORARY RESIDENCE PERMIT

EU/SWISS CITIZENS

MOBILITY PERIOD LONGER THAN 90 DAYS


EU citizens who plan to study in Croatia for more than 90 days are obliged to apply for the approval of
the temporary stay for the purpose of studies (dozvola boravka). You should submit your application for
the issuance of the residence card within 90 days of your arrival in Croatia at the Foreigners Office,
Central Police Station (Odsjek za strance, Policijska uprava Zagrebaka) in Petrinjska 30 , HR-
10000 Zagreb, WORKING HOURS: 8am 3:30 pm.

MOBILITY PERIOD SHORTER THAN 90 DAYS


EU citizens are not obliged to apply for the approval for temporary stay or to register their address if
they are staying in Croatia shorter than 90 days.

NON-EU CITIZENS
MOBILITY PERIOD LONGER THAN 90 DAYS
Non-EU citizens staying in Croatia for more than 90 days are obliged to apply for the approval of the
temporary stay for the purpose of studies (dozvola boravka) within 48 hours of their arrival.
To apply for the permit you will need to submit the following documents at the Foreigners Office,
Central Police Station (Odsjek za strance, Policijska uprva Zagrebaka) in Petrinjska ulica 30,
HR-10000 Zagreb, WORKING HOURS: 8am 3:30 pm

1. Form1b (EU citizens)


Form1a (NON-EU citizens)
2. Acceptance letter (in Croatian) from UNIZG stating the study purpose of your stay - you will get
one at your Faculty of stay once you come to do the registration procedure
1. 1 photo in color (35x45mm)
2. Proof of sufficient means of subsistence (statement of bank account, scholarship confirmation
and similar; only for the scholars of the University of Zagreb - invitation letter stating the
scholarship amount) 800 HRK for EU citizens (approx. 110EUR min./moth), 1000 HRK for
NON-EU citizens (approx. 150EUR min./moth)
3. Proof of secured accommodation
if staying in the student hall of residence you are automatically registered in the
police system (no additional documents are required by you)
in case of private accommodation a rental contract and a proof of ownership
(vlasniki list) not older than 6 months
4. Proof of health insurance
5. Original and photocopy of the passport or the identity card
MOBILITY PERIOD SHORTER THAN 90 DAYS
Upon your arrival in Croatia and if you are staying in private accommodation (rented apartment or
similar), you need to register your address within 48 hours at the Foreigners Office, Central Police
Station, Petrinjska ulica No. 30 (Odsjek za strance, Policijska uprava Zagrebaka). For the students
who are staying at hotels or student halls of residence the address is automatically registered.
COST OF THE PERMIT (ADMINISTRATIVE FEE)
EU citizens do not have to pay the administration fee. NON-EU citizens need to pay, depending
on the mobility programme, 500 HRK or 740 HRK.

IMPORTANT: All documents need to be translated into Croatian and certified by a public notary (for
example: Lingua-soft, Frankopanska 5A, Phone: + 385 1 4830 401, email: lingua-soft@lingua-soft.hr).

6. CROATIAN LANGUAGE COURSE (optional)


CROATICUM Croatian as Foreign and Second Language, University of Zagreb, ADDRESS: Ivana
Luia 3, 10 000 Zagreb
COURSE 2 x 2 hours weekly; PRICE: 200EUR Erasmus & bilateral exchange students
Initial meeting: Thursday, 28 September 2017. at the Faculty of humanities and social sciences
(Ivana Luia 3, Zagreb), classroom A-114, at 5.00 pm.

7. WELCOME DAY FOR EXCHANGE STUDENTS


The Welcome Day for international exchange students will take place on Friday, 29 September 2017 at
the Faculty of Architecture at the following address: Fra Andrije Kaia Mioia 26
At the Day students will be welcomed by the International Relations office and student organization
Erasmus Student Network and will be able to hear some interesting information about living and
studying in Zagreb.
The programme will start at 2pm until 4pm.
PS. Make sure to be there because all participating students will receive a small welcome gift of the
University!

8. IN CASE YOU NEED A DOCTOR


If you don't feel well and need a doctor, this the address where you can turn to / make an appointment:

If it's a weekend / bank holiday, you should go to the EMERGENCY MEDICAL ASSISTANCE
INSTITUTE located in Heinzlova 88. This hospital receives accident victims and patients with sudden,
serious illnesses 24-hours a day.
In emergencies for which an ambulance is needed dial 112! 112 is the emergency number for
fireman, ambulance and police. You will be asked to explain what has happened, where it has
happened and from which number you are calling.

9. INTERNET ACCESS IN THE STUDENT HALLS OF RESIDENCE


After you get your username and password at the faculty/academy of the University you will enrol,
download the necessary installation software from http://installer.eduroam.hr, get a cable (no wireless
in the dorm), and it should work.

10. ESN ERASMUS STUDENT NETWORK

In the week from 25.09. - 01.10.2017. University of Zagreb and ESN Zagreb are organizing a number of
events which will bring you together and help you get to know the city.
