Tips for Staining Wood

Staining wood can transform the look of everything from fencing
to decking. While wood can be beautiful in its natural state, staining
can protect the wood and complement landscaping and other home
design elements.
Staining can seem like a simple project, and that is often true.
However, certain woods, such as pine, cherry, maple, and birch,
can be difficult to stain. Boards with attractive grain patterns also
can absorb stain differently, resulting in blotching and uneven tone.
Before beginning a staining project, it is important for homeown-
ers to test the stain chosen on a sample piece of wood to see how
the color and absorption turn out. This gives homeowners the
chance to understand what theyre dealing with and time to make

Bronco Football Continues to Fight

by Len Lathrop
While their season record includes only one win, the team continues
to fight. Fridays game against Nashua South saw the Broncos cross the
goal line twice.
Just before halftime, Tommy Callahan grabbed a pass from QB Kyle
Gora for 45 yards and a TD. Zach Reddig kicked the point after, making
it 32-7 at the half.
The second score in the fourth quarter came from a 42-yard run by
Tyler Mahaney. Reddig tacked on the PAT again.
The Broncos are on the road this Friday, the 13th, when they face the
Astros in Londonderry.

27-25, 25-20. Leading the team Friday were

junior Meghan Gibbons - four aces, two kills, six
digs; junior captain Olivia Garand - one ace, 12
digs; and senior Mary Kuczkowski - one ace, one
block, 33 assists.
Coach Miner reported, This has been
the toughest match we have played since
Winnisquam. Going into this match I was
confident we were going to put our best foot
forward. My goal was to not let Epping take a
set; it was a little nerve racking in set two, but we
buckled down and played like the team we are.
In set three, we were behind by at least four points
throughout because of our mistakes. The girls
recognized this during a timeout, and, when they
went back out on that court, they went after them
to win the match.
Im very proud of their strength and
determination.
