1. What change would you suggest to improve the situation?

The power culture in Apple developed as illustrated in the video has a range of disadvantages
such as under-utilisation of employee creativeness and initiatives, high level of risk associated
with decisions taken, and decisions of a leader not facing criticisms in lower management ranks.
Accordingly, these disadvantages might have serious negative effects for Apple because the
business and leadership skills of the current corporate leader of the company might not match
the skills of Steve Jobs. According to Harrisons Model of Culture (1972), one of the serious
disadvantages of power culture relates to a situation where organisations can experience
drawbacks and performance drop if the organisational leader lacks business and leadership
competencies.

2. What evidence is there that Apple maintain its Ethical Values

Apple has done a good job with their social and ethical responsibilities. Apple has investigated
and reported child labor violation, toxic conditions, and other violations of their code of ethics.
They became more concerned and a better, societal, and responsible company. Apple has tried
to ensure that its employees and those with which they work display appropriate conduct in all
situations. It bases its success on creating innovative, high-quality products and services and on
demonstrating integrity in every business interaction. Apple always maintain its four main
principles contribute to integrity: honesty, respect, confidentiality, and compliance in its
operation.

3. What do the expressions of Push the envelope and Think outside of the square mean
and how do they relate to ethical Behaviour

"Pushing the envelope" describes testing limits and boundaries. "Thinking outside the square" is
usually applied to a creative approach that no one else has attempted. It is often used when
someone creates a new process or discovers a novel approach to solving a problem. This phrase
means something is unconventional, unique, and entirely different.

Being an ethical learder concerns with playing fair, having always consideration of welfare of others and
thinking about consequences of every ones action. This is nonetheless even if one grows up with a strong
sense for good or bad, the bad conduct of others can undermine his moral sense as well. What is more,
an ethical leader will consider much of the long-term effects, disadvantages as well as good outcomes of
their decisions. When every manager seriously considers the matter of ethical responsibility, they will
certainly become more sensitive to their employees needs and issues of those who will be affected.
Consequently, they will be more able to identify by nature the araising conflicts. Good leaders are
characterized by an enhanced ability to feel morally obligated to a wide range of workers and this is not a
skill, but knowledge and world perspective. Ethical leaders always create favourable consequences for
employees and organization that are reflected in perceived leaders effectiveness, followers job
satisfaction, increased dedication and issue reporting. In sum up, love constitutes the soul of ethical
leadership. Ethical leaders lead with love, with a feeling of warm personal attachment - leaders are
transforming their employees and workers into leaders. It is love in an organizational sense that creates
the desire to see others grow and become better. Another recipe to keep oneself on the path of ethics
is to undergo a positive periodic inoculations, which happen when one meets individuals or experiences
situations that force him to examine what he is doing or is trying to do to set a good example for others.

Question 2

Give examples of how acting as ethical leaders would benefit both the organization and its employees.

Ethical leaders will encourage their organization operating in an ethical or good moral manners such as
the company is likely to recruit candidates more efficiently, choosing those recruits that will fit the existing
organizational values. In other words, employees have high tendency and always want to work for a high-
quality organization with excellent reputation which can only find at companies with good ethical
practices of leaders. Likewise, consumers want to deal with a reputable company and business partners
search for renowned companies because they can find only with such companies possible to foster trust
based relationships. This obviously increase the benefits for companies. What is more, acting a ethical
leaders will also mean constantly providing ethics programs cultivating strong teamwork and productivity.
Continuous consideration and discourse with respect to values in the workplace assemblies transparancy,
integrity and community. These are critical ingredients of strong teams in the workplace. When employees
feel strong alignment between their values and those of the organization. They will work with strong
motivation and performance. Acting as ethical leaders will retain good employees who can bring about
much benefits for the companies due to their talent and effective performance by their nature. Another
example of the benefits of acting as ethical leaders is that it will create positive work environment and
avoid legal problem which are benefical for both the organization and its employees.
