CHARACTERISTICS

1 CHARACTERISTICS

1.1 FOREWORD

The equipment is in compliance with the following standards:

EN 301 489-4 for EMC

ITU-R F384-10 for RF channel arrangement

EN 302 217 for fixed digital radio links

EN 300 132-2 power supply characteristics

EN 300 019 climatic characteristics (in operation: class 3.2 for IDU and class 4.1 for ODU; storing:
class 1.2; transport: class 2.3)

EN 60950 for the operator safety

IEEE 802.3 for Ethernet interfaces

ITU-T G.8261 for timing and synchronization aspects in packet networks.

1.2 CHARACTERISTICS

The reported values are guaranteed if not specifically defined otherwise.

MN.00258.E - 006 3
1.2.1 Versions

Two versions of ODU are available: ODU AS and ODU ASN. The two versions are similar. Differencies will
be pointed out.

Regarding ODU ASN, the units without isolator have SIAE code GE9xxx, the units with isolator have
SIAE code GE8xxx.

RF loop is available for ODU AS. An equivalent feature is available on request for ODU ASN.

1.2.2 Available frequencies

1 ITU-R F.384-10 foresee only the 30 and 40 MHz channel spacing. However, ALplus2, ALCplus2 and
ALCplus2e IDUs support 7, 14, 28 and 56 MHz channel bandwidth that are reported in this document for
information purpose.
2 40 MHz channel bandwidth is available only for ALCplus2e
3 This channel filter option is available only for AS ODU.

Note: the 70 MHz RF filter bandwidth can be used for the 1+1 FD configuration, by coupling two frequency
channels on the same antenna by means of a RF circulator. This configuration can be used with the follow-
ing limitations:

28 MHz Channel Bandwidth (either 30 or 40 MHz channel spacing): the two RF cahnnels must be-
long to two different and non adjacent subbands. For example, subband CH1-2 can be used in
conjunction with subband CH4-5 or a farthest subband. In addition, Channel#1 cannot be used in
conjunction with Channel #8

56 MHz Channel Bandwidth: the two RF channels must belong to two different and non overlapped
subbands. For example, subband CH1-2 can be used in conjunction with subband CH3-4 or a
farthest subband.

MN.00258.E - 006 9
The 6U GHz band is split into eight subbands. A filter covers a single 28 MHz channel with a40 channel
spacing, according to ITU-R F.384-10.

a. The typical values are achieved with 48 Vdc of input power voltage. For ALplus2 IDU the power con-
sumption refers to the equipment loaded with traffic on Ethernet and 16xE1 interfaces. For ALCplus2 the
power consumption refers to the IDU with Ethernet and 16xE1 interfaces fully loaded.

In ALCplus2 1+1 and ALCplus2e (all version) the two power connectors are in parallel.

1.2.6 Hybrids

The ODU units of a 1+1 system with single antenna are coupled to the antenna by means of an hybrid,
available in different versions, whose branching losses are listed here below.

- 1+1 hot stand-by

- balanced hybrid Tx losses 4dB

Rx losses 4dB

- unbalanced hybrid Tx losses 1.7/7dB

Rx losses 1.7/7dB

- 1+1 FD (only with double polariz. antenna) negligible losses

7
- 1+1 FD configuration with RF channel filter Tx losses < 1 dB
Rx losses < 1 dB

- 1+1 SD with double antenna negligible losses

- 1+1 SFD with double antenna negligible losses

- 2x(1+0) negligible losses

1.2.7 Flange of the waveguide

- Type of flange of the waveguide (radio side) UDR 70

- Maximum recommended waveguide length

for ODU ASN without isolator (m) see Tab.13

6 Fully equipped configuration with 300m 1/4 IDU-ODU cable

7 The absolute difference between frequency carriers must be at least 2xBW where BW is the bandwidth
of the RF channel filter
