The installation guidelines in this topic are for installing SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.0 or SAP
BusinessObjects BI 4.1 that is downloaded from the BMC Analytics for BSM Electronic Product
Distribution (EPD) page.
This topic contains information about launching the installation and guidelines for the options
recommended for use with BMC Analytics for BSM, but it does not contain installation prerequisites or
step-by-step instructions for installing the SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.0 or 4.1 product. Also, if you are
migrating from SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1, you should be familiar with the upgrade and
migration procedures. Find out how to access the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise installation
documentation by going to SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence documentation.
Notes
If you plan to install BMC Analytics for BSM by using BMC Atrium Single Sign-On authentication,
ensure that your SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise server host is part of the DNS domain or
subdomain of the BMC Atrium Single Sign-On server host.
If you are not familiar with SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise, or if you need assistance installing SAP
BusinessObjects Enterprise, contact BMC customer support.

4.1
1. Extract the files that you downloaded from the BMC EPD page.
a. On a Microsoft Windows operating system, copy all the files ( .exe and .rar) under a single
directory. For example, SAP_BO_LINUX.
b. Double click or run the .exe file.
All the SAP BusinessObjects installation related files and the contents of all the .rar files are
extracted in a single directory with the name of the directory in digits format. For example, 51046779.
c. Transfer this directory to a Linux system.
Note
Do not copy the .exe or .rar files again to the Linux system.

d. Navigate to the \<directoryOnTheLinuxSystem>\ DATA_UNITS \


BusinessObjectsServer_lnx\directory. For example, \51046779\ DATA_UNITS \
BusinessObjectsServer_lnx\
2. Start the installation as follows:
(UNIX or Linux) Run ./setup.sh.
(Windows) Double-click setup.exe.
If you are copying the installation files from a Microsoft Windows computer to a UNIX computer, the
execute permission on the setup.sh file might change. Before installing BMC Analytics for BSM
and SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise, execute the following command in the directory where you
have copied the files:
chmod 755 `find ./ -type d --name *`
chmod 755 `find ./ -type f --name *`

3. As you encounter the following options during the installation, consider the following information:

Installation option

Language Packs BMC Analytics for BSM has limited language support. Refer to
the BMC Analytics for BSM Product Compatibility Matrix for
the latest language support information.

Installation type BMC Analytics for BSM requires the SAP BusinessObjects
Enterprise server. You can install the SAP BusinessObjects
Enterprise server on Microsoft Windows, IBM AIX, Oracle
Solaris, or Linux operating systems.

BMC Analytics for BSM assumes that you are performing a Full
installation, which installs all the SAP BusinessObjects
Enterprise components required for a functioning SAP
BusinessObjects Enterprise reporting environment. See BMC
Analytics for BSM license for BusinessObjects for more
information about the components licensed for use with BMC
Analytics for BSM.

BMC Analytics for BSM has been verified to work with a SAP
BusinessObjects Enterprise Central Management Server that is
using a MySQL, Oracle, or Microsoft SQL Server database.

Select Web BMC Analytics for BSM is compatible with Apache Tomcat or
Application Server Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). If you are using
BMC Atrium Single Sign-On with BMC Analytics for BSM,
only Apache Tomcat is supported.
4. If you install SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.0, install Service Pack 6 or later. If you install SAP
BusinessObjects BI 4.1, install Service Pack 1 or later.

To verify the installation


1. Launch the Central Management Console:
a. (For SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.0) Select Start > All Programs > SAP BusinessObjects
XI 4.0 > SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise > SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise
Central Management Console.
b. (For SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.1) Select Start > All Programs > SAP BusinessObjects
XI 4.1 > SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise > SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise
Central Management Console.
2. In the Central Management Console Logon window, enter your logon information and click Log On.

To obtain an SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise license


Although the BMC Analytics for Business Service Management (BMC Analytics for BSM) product
does not require a license key, the version of SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise that is delivered by
BMC does require a license key. A 30-day trial license is included with the product media, but to
obtain a permanent license key, you must have purchased BMC Analytics for BSM.
If you do not already have SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise installed in your environment, and you
plan to install SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise that is shipped by BMC, use the license you received
following your purchase of BMC Analytics for BSM. For more information about contacting BMC about
