Mr. Kenneth Johnson

Mens Basketball
University of Louisville

Dear Mr. Johnson:

This letter is to inform you that I am placing you on leave with pay from your position as Associate Head
Coach for Mens Basketball, effective immediately.

As you know, your Employment Contract with the University of Louisville Athletic Association, Inc.
(ULAA) provides that you are to show exemplary sensitivity to the spirit as well as the letter of
applicable University, ULAA, ACC and NCAA rules. If you are found to have engaged in or carelessly or
knowingly encouraged, failed to disclose, contributed to, or allowed significant or repetitive violations of
these rules or regulations, your contract may be terminated. In addition, the absence of negative
publicity about you is a material condition of your employment.

ULAA and the University are in the early stages of an internal investigation into NCAA and other issues
that came to light last week when the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York
announced that it had filed charges in United States v. Gatto. Your role in some of these matters is in
question.

While the ULAA and University investigation continues, you are to have no contact with the Mens
Basketball Program, any of its personnel, or any of its student-athletes or prospects. You are also to
have no physical presence on campus or at any of the Universitys athletics facilities. In this vein, we
would request that, should this leave still be in effect when the Basketball Team starts its season, you
refrain from attending its games. If you would like to remove some of your personal items from your
office, we will make arrangements for that.

You will be entitled to continue your health insurance during this leave.

While this leave is in effect, you are expected to cooperate with all University, ULAA, NCAA, and federal
law enforcement investigations that in any way touch upon the activities of current or former members
of the Department of Athletics. This includes, without limitation, compliance with the document
preservation notice you received last week.

Sincerely,

University of Louisville Athletic Association, Inc.
