BS Psychology is Back

By: Nicole Andres IV AB Psych

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, BS Psychology is spreading its wings and is back
with a vengeance.

According to Ms. Angela Regala, chairman of the Psychology department, the strong
demand for the course was measured by the numerous inquiries made by applicants that the school
decided it was high time for the course to be offered once again. The re-emergence of this particular
course offers students of Assumption the chance to pursue careers in the medical field and the decision
to re-offer the course has been, by far, a popular one with one section full per year level. While the
decision was initially announced two years ago, it was only this school year that it was officially
introduced as one of the courses offered in Assumption College.

Honestly, I was a huge fan of the communication arts industry and wanted to venture
either [into] Mass Communications or Theater Arts. However, it changed when I was in my third year of
high school. I wanted to become more of what was always expected of me. I want to help others. I want
to become a physician someday says Gail Castro, 1st year Mesil Representative for PFA. I chose to
enroll in BS Psychology because I think it would open a lot of opportunities for my career in life and will
serve as a pre-med course. I believe it's not enough that you do well in all your grades but rather giving
all your best even if you may have your ups and downs when studying.
You just have to believe in yourself that you can achieve one thing and be passionately into it.

For 2nd year Angeli Malonzo, the shift was not as easy as she expected. At first I thought
it was easy, but then it's not. Its like I don't have a social life anymore because of the paper works given
to us, especially the lab reports while for most 13 current third year students who shifted from AB
Psychology to BS Psychology as soon as the go signal was given, the transition was a tough yet rewarding
experience as well. What made the transition easier for the current 3rd year BS Psychology student
Joanna Sunga was her deep passion for human service. I guess I can say that being a nursing student for
a year strengthened my desire to help other people she said.
[But] I can still reach out to them without having to go through graveyard duties every week this time.

The re-emergence of this course seems to bid well for the school as it has the potential
to raise standards and the number of applicants wanting to take the course. I expect them [the BS
Psychology students] to do well, gain extra knowledge and discipline from their extra math courses, and
later on pursue careers in the field of science says Ms. Regala. With the help of their professors and
peers, it looks like our BS Psychology students are well on their way to becoming efficient future leaders
that value human welfare above all and that the school can be most proud of.
