SPOTLIGHT ON:
PROFESSOR ANDREW OSWALD
BEHAVIOURAL ECONOMICS
Andrew Oswald is best known for having pioneered an entirely new field
of study the economics of happiness which has grown to worldwide
prominence. He represents a broader, multidisciplinary movement that is
revolutionising economics by linking it with psychology, behavioural science
and the natural sciences.
Following Oswalds early ideas, the UK government is now collecting regular well-being data as a
measure of economic progress, along with GDP data. He is one of the few social scientists in the
world on the editorial board of Science, the worlds leading journal of original scientific research.

SPOTLIGHT ON: DR CLAIRE CRAWFORD

ECONOMICS OF EDUCATION/LABOUR ECONOMICS
Claire Crawford is best known for her work on higher
education access, showing how large gaps are between
people from different backgrounds (socio-economics, ethnic,
gender), what can explain this and potential solutions.
She focuses on the economics of education and labour economics. Claire does
a lot of work on higher education access and finance issues, and is particularly
interested in topics that identify and ideally can point to solutions for
inequalities in outcomes. Some of the questions she has addressed are how
we can help people from disadvantaged backgrounds go to university, and the
financial implication of changes to grants, loans and fees for student, universities
and the government.
