Q4 a) An inclined plane as shown in figure 4a. is used [8]
to unload slowly a body weighing 400 N from a
truck 1.2 m high into the ground. The coefficient
of friction between the underside of the body and
the plank is 0.3. State whether it is necessary to
push the body down the plane or hold it back
from sliding down. What minimum force is
required parallel to the plane for this purpose ? (Figure 4a)

b) Determine the maximum force P that can be [8]
applied to block A as shown in figure 4 (b)
without causing either block to move.
(Figure 4b)

Q5 a) Determine the position of center of gravity of
the I section. Shown in figure 5a.
(Figure 5a)
b) Find the moment of inertia of the lamina with a [10]
circular hole of 30 mm diameter about the axis
AB as shown in figure 5b.
(Figure 5b)
Q6 a) A bar of length 1000 mm and diameter 30 mm is centrally bored for length 400 mm, [8]
the bore diameter being 10 mm as shown in figure 6a. Under a load of 30 kN, if the
extension of the bar is 0.222 mm, what is the modulus of elasticity of the bar?
(Figure 6a)
b) Draw stress strain diagram of mild steel and show all important points on it. [8]
Explain all features.

Q7 An overhanging beam ABC, such that span AB = 6 m & overhang BC = 2 m carries
a udl of 12 KN/m over entire span ABC and one point loads 10 kN at the free end C
(figure 7). Find out reactions at the support, write equations of SF and BM for
section AB and BC, and draw SF diagram and BM diagram for the beam & calculate
the point of contra flexure if any.

b) A body is moving in a straight line with uniform acceleration at an initial velocity of 12 m/s,
after 5 s its velocity is 20 m/s. Determine i) its acceleration, ii) the distance travelled in this
time and iii) the time taken to travel a distance of 200 m. [8]
