October Monthly Reflection

My capstone project is to identify and determine the amount of food dye in Thai tea, the

main ingredient of Thai iced tea by using the process of HPLC (High Performance Liquid

Chromatography) and TLC (Thin Layer Chromatography). Now, Im in the process of reviewing

preexisting researches and determining the suitable system (especially the mobile phase) for both

TLC and HPLC and the process of collecting samples to be tested. To move forward and

proceed to the TLC and HPLC process, the samples must be collected and some additional

researches would have to be done. After the collection of samples and the researches are

finished, then I could proceed to the actual lab part, which is running TLC and HPLC process to

determine the type and amount of dye within the tea. After that, additional researches would be

done and a survey and campaign to raise awareness of people within the school would be done.

There are no changes so far in my capstone project and the timeline of the project. The goal of

this project is still the same, in which it is to identify the type of food dyes present in Thai tea

and to determine the amount of each of the types of food dyes. The ideas I had havent been

changed and this project had revealed that I am interested in making researches and knowing

more about information that I didnt know before, but have an impact on my everyday life.

This project relates to all of the ESLOs. The project relates to me being a strategic

learner since it includes learning and recognizing what is important to know and understand.

This could be shown during the process of researching, which requires me to recognize the

important parts of each of the papers and understanding them. All the researches were done by

using computers. Hence, technology is used in both the process of learning and working. It also

relates to being an innovative thinker since it includes me building on ideas I learned from the

preexisting papers and using the ideas to work on my project. Since it requires reading and

writing, I am an articulate communicator. In terms of harms, there is no harm done in the

process of working on this project. Thus, Im considered as a morally intelligent person. In

addition, working on this project also includes rasiing awareness of people, it allows me to be a

altruistic global citizen. Lastly, since this project was done with Milly, another member within my

group, teamwork and common goal was made. We also worked through our differences and

agree on a common understanding and idea. Other than that, we reflect our works and critique

each others works with honesty in order to improve ourselves. Hence, I followed the ESLO

leaders for the future.
