RESUMEN
L

ABSTRACT
T
his doctoral dissertation studies the treatment of love in
the writings of Fyodor M. Dostoevsky. Love is a common
topic in philosophy and one of the issues of which it is
possible to find very valuable intuitions in the works of the Russian
writer. In traditional studies on Dostoevsky, even those that adopt a
philosophical approach, this topic is however not studied in the way it
is done here. My departure point is philosophical anthropology
because I firmly believe, in line with experts such Nikolai A. Berdyaev,
that in Dostoevskys writings there is a deep and original enquiry on
human nature which certainly encompasses love. With relation to the
sources, I mostly focus on Dostoevskys novels and short stories,
although occasionally I also make use of his correspondence,
notebooks or journalistic writings, and also of information from his
biography. I have used translations of Dostoevskys works into
different languages, plus a constant reference to the Russian original
works themselves, consulted in the shortened edition of the writers
complete works published by the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet
Union.
The dissertation has three sections. The first one presents an
overview of the history of the philosophical reception of the Russian
writer, specifically focused on two aspects: the way in which the
scholarship has coped with the problem of identifying the Dostoevsky
thinker as well as the treatment of love. With relation to the first
aspect, my conclusion is that most scholars acknowledge the existence
