PUBLIC OPEN HOUSE #2

MEDIA RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 5, 2017

Public Meetings Regarding Compatibility Planning Around Fort Drum

The Development Authority of the North Country, in cooperation with Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence
counties, the communities surrounding Fort Drum, and other agencies and organizations in the region, is
preparing a Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) to address compatibility planning around Fort Drum. The primary
objective of the JLUS is to reduce current and potential compatibility issues between Fort Drum and
surrounding communities while accommodating new growth and economic development, sustaining
economic vitality, protecting public health and safety, and sustaining the operational missions of Fort Drum.

The public is invited these meetings to receive an update on the JLUS process and learn more about the
compatibility issues that have been identified. The meeting will start with a presentation to provide an
update on the JLUS process, JLUS documents, and the next steps. This will be followed by an interactive
exercise where participants will be able to rank each identified compatibility issue with how important it is to
them (e.g., very important, somewhat important, not important) in terms of required actions to address.
Participants will also have the opportunity to provide input on strategies to address the issues via comment
cards.

The Development Authority of the North Country is hosting a set of two public meetings. The
material presented will be the same, but there will be two geographic locations to provide a broader
opportunity for attendance.
