An introduction to RTA
Vision
Safe and Smooth Transport for All

Mission
Our mission is to prepare legislation and develop integrated solutions of road systems and
land/marine transportation networks that are safe and in line with Dubais economic development
plans and the highest international standards .

Profile
Formed in November 2005. Responsible for strategy, legislation, planning
and executing of multi modal transport and traffic projects in Dubai.

Modes of Transport
Buses, Taxis, Water Taxis, Metro Rail.in future Al SufouhTram
RTAs need for a DC GROWTH Since IT Service Launch in Apr 2006

Retrofitted an inherited DC in 2006 with 24 racks.

Growth of 1 Racks to 36 Racks in 1.5 yrs time.

Exponential growth of RTA resulting more DC Space.

Demand increased to expand to host 5 high density Racks.

A Temp DC was built in a very short time to host upcoming

customer facing projects.

Disaster Recovery Site planned for Corporate and co-hosting

for agencies.
RTAs need for a DC Key Challenges

Projects Planned to cater public needs:

 Journey Planner
 Automated Fare Collection
 Automated Vehicle Monitoring
 Customer Relationship Management

Key Challenges
 Current DC a Inherited facility
Did the best with what we have
Standardise, consolidate & integrate
 Rapid changes
 Unpredictable demands and high growth
High lead time for Rented premises
Need for a Disaster Recovery DC for RTA Enterprise as well
as hosting space for Public Transportation & Dubai Taxi
Agency.
Strategic Plans to have a state of the art Green Data Center
which is highly available, scalable, flexible and modular.
While treating timelines as priority, the compromise was
on the Bldg. quality.

Architecture Philosophy: Functionality:

High availability through implementation of Disaster Recovery for RTA Corporate

Industry Standard Best Practices. Enterprise
 Possible production capability
Redundant power and cooling capacity Co-host other agencies
components. Live pilot of key technology standards

 Using adaptive architecture approach

meeting the reliability, flexibility and TCO
roadmap.

Perceived Modular DC
Achieved Modular DC
Modular DC
Power:
UPS:
Lower operational cost due to higher efficiency of (1+1) modules in redundancy.
Dual input bus ready to take input from different input power networks.
Tier-upgrade ready without interruption under operational conditions - Load Bus Synchronization feature.
 MeetsTIA942 multiple paths/multiple source requirements.
Generators:
Generators connected in sync mode between each other and DEWA incomer through a ACB.
Generators support the UPS systems, Base Load CCUs and auxiliary power requirements of the DC.
Power Distribution Units:
Allowing easy reconfiguration and re-allocation of the distribution circuits for multiple power paths to the
racks or addition of new racks.

Cooling and Humidification:

Base Load Cooling:
The cooling is based on adaptive cooling architecture utilizing CRAC units for base load cooling and
humidification.
Base Load Cooling is water free, copper is under floor with 600mm raised floor height giving enough air
flow to the racks.
Direct Cooling:
Direct Cooling (In Row Units) for high density cooling using refrigerant as cooling medium.
PlugnPlay modules can be added in post-implementation under operational conditions.
High-Capacity, High-efficiency cooling modules delivering more cooling capacity at same energy
consumption levels.

In--Rack Patching:
In
Pre-terminated, high density copper & fiber
Distributed Fiber / Copper density by using ceiling and under floor design
Specialized MDF cabinets reducing penetrations bottle-necks
Fool-proof cabling, eliminating operators unchartered improvising
Using specialized Fiber overhead Containment system
 Eliminate future spaghetti scenarios
