Memorial Complex: Memorialization of the victims of Terrorism

Problem Statement: Terrorism in Pakistan has become a major and highly destructive phenomenon in recent
years. Pakistan is the country most affected by terrorism. The number of terrorist incidents raised to 21,664
between 2001 and 2016, the highest anywhere in the world. In term of human loss more than 55,000
including civilians, personnel of law enforcement agencies and troops. We are facing war like situation against
the terrorists.

WHAT PLACE IS THERE IN TODAYS SOCIETY TO COMMEMORATE A


NEGATIVE EVENT, A PAINFUL PAST THAT AWAKEN DISAGREMENT,
SADNESS AND HORROR RATHER THAN GLORY?

Project Introduction: Memorial Complex is a place in the remembrance of those people who lost their lives in
terror attacks in Pakistan. A place to honor the victim of terrorism and the survivor. Memorial will
commemorate the role of our nation in combating terrorism and will pay homage to the sacrifices of the
innocent people. It will reflect that the terrorism is a continuous threat to mankind and peace is need of hour.
The complex will enhance the sense of nationalism by providing a national platform and will reflect that we
are hopeful for a peaceful nation.
Aims and Objectives:

A place to remember those people who have lost their lives in terrorist incidents.
A place that will provide a platform to honor the victims of terrorism and the survivors.
It will represent the struggle of our nation in this war like situation.
A national public platform to promote nationalism and mutual harmony among masses through
commemorations.
To create a place that will bring a hope (hope for peaceful future).
Project Users: Public (the spectrum of users are wide its a public place, all people from Pakistan and all over
the world).
Site of the Project: All regions of country are facing terrorism. Memorial Complex will be the national
representation of all that sacrifices of our nation in combating against terrorism and to bring peace. So, the
proposed site will be in Islamabad, the capital city of Pakistan.

Museum: Design as a conceptual expressive tool to represent the incident/ experience/ life of a victim-
survivor

Symbolic cemetery: dead bodies which are found after a blast is not in a whole condition (sometimes only an
arm, feet or log found), memorial cemetery will be designed to pay respect to those victims
Remembrance Pavilion: Central pavilion design with lighting the candle to honor activate so that the visitors
can honor the victims. To commemorate the victim of terrorism and the survivors. The candles will be light up
in the pavilion at different events as a symbol of solidarity.

Public Square: A place where people will come to celebrate the national events of country, where up lifting
flag ceremonies will be held on national occasions to promote the national harmony between the people.

Monument of Peace: will consist of a monument that will be placed at the focal point in the center of
Memorial Complex. Monument of peace is a symbol of Hope for a Peaceful Future.
Building the gap: A platform will be provided to young generation to present their ideas, talents and skills that
how they can contribute to bring peace and prosperity of their country. In this regard, different programs and
stage shows will be held. Interactive spaces where the society/community can get a chance to depict their
thoughts about terrorism, victims and their families through dramatics, preforming arts, art installation,
photography display, graffiti and many more activities.
