Tems Cell Planner

LTE Module - Effects of Loading

(Open Loop 2x2 MIMO

2km/h Channel Model)

Gavin Saldanha
Introduction
The purpose of this presentation is to use the TEMS
Cell Planner LTE module to identify how load on an
LTE system generates interference and hence, a
reduction in data rate throughput;

The Open Loop MIMO 2km/h Channel Model is used;

For the downlink, the following loading effects are

taken into account: 0%, 25%, 50%, 100%;

For the uplink, the following loading effects (noise rise)

are taken into account: 0dB, 2.5dB, 5dB, 7dB, 10dB;

The system performance will be assessed at the

following percentiles: 10th, 50th, 95th;

Summary
Based on the study done, loading an LTE system
results in reduced throughput levels;

For the downlink, the 50th percentile shows a reduction

in throughput from 42.2 MBit/s (unloaded) to 18.5
Mbit/s (50% load) refer to slide 30;

For the uplink, a 5dB Noise Rise over Thermal shows a

reduction in throughput from 5.85 MBit/s (close to 0dB
Noise Rise) to 4.1 MBit/s (5dB Noise Rise) refer to
slide 40.
