Textbook and Classroom Materials

Kysh, Judy, Baldinger, Evra, Kassarjian, Michael, Core Connections Algebra 2.CPM Educational
Program, 2013
o Students will be given an online code to access the textbook. The online textbook has helpful
homework help and videos students should use to review material. Please contact Mr. Bardoff
if students have trouble accessing the online textbook for any reason.

3 Ring Binder with Mathematics Section

Sharpened Pencils, daily
Looseleaf Notebook Paper (refill daily)

Calculators will be available for use in class daily. At home students should use their own calculator or utilize a
calculator from a computer or phone. One example of a free scientific calculator is available at:
http://www.online-calculator.com/scientific-calculator/. Students can also use the online graphing program
Desmos for some problems. Students wishing to purchase a calculator may want to purchase a TI-84 Plus Silver
Edition.

Grading Policy and Procedures

Marking period grades will be based upon a body of evidence that is aligned to standards and expectations which will include
multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate what they know and can do as a result of taking this course. All grades will be
computed using the BCPSOne Learning Management System on a 50-100 scale. Assignments (graded and non-graded) will be updated
in BCPS One at a minimum of every two weeks.

Throughout the course of the school year, students will have opportunities to improve their prior performance (redo or retake teacher-
identified assignments), given the following criteria:
1. The student must show evidence of new learning, as defined by the teacher or department, which demonstrates the student
has progressed as a result of provided feedback.
2. The student may not have incomplete or missing non-graded assignments related to the assignment he/she is seeking to redo
or retake.
Students will not be allowed to retake end-of-unit summative assessments.

Please reference the BCPS Grading and Reporting Procedures Manual for additional information:
https://www.bcps.org/academics/grading/Grading-and-Reporting-Procedures17-18.pdf

The Mathematics Department will be calculating grades based on a distribution of points by reporting progress on Learning Checks,
Unit Exams, Periodic Assessments, Curriculum-Embedded Assessments (CEAs) and other identified assignments in the Graded
category. The Graded category will include Major Assignments (Summative Assessments) worth approximately 33% of the marking
period grade and Minor Assignments (All Other Graded Assignments) worth approximately 67% of the marking period grade. Other
formative assignments will be recorded in the Scored Feedback category which will not affect the overall marking period grade. The
following gradebook codes will be used to report student progress:

LMS Code Meaning Impact on Overall Grade Examples of Use
LS Lowest Score Automatically calculates to be A student attempts a task and earns below 50% of the total
50% of the total possible points points possible.

IN Incomplete* No impact on overall grade. A student is absent when the task is assigned.
A student does not put effort in completing the task.
A student does not complete the task.
*If students have one or more Incomplete Assignments, there is a possibility that the student will earn an Incomplete (I) grade on his/her report card for the marking period.
The student will have two weeks to complete any incomplete assignments or the grade will automatically change to an E for the marking period.
Reassessment Opportunities
As defined by the teacher, students will be provided a minimum of four (4) redos or retakes per marking period. Students must show
evidence of new learning and may not have any incomplete assignments in order to participate in reassessment opportunities. There are
NO retakes on summative unit exams or county-wide Periodic Unit Assessments. Redos/Retakes and Incomplete assignments need to be
COMPLETED BY THE UNIT EXAM. Teachers will communicate with students the assignments that are eligible for reassessment and
use a modified Request to Redo/Retake form. Students will be expected to use this form in order to request a redo or retake on a specific
assignment. Students will only be allowed to redo or retake identified assignments one time.
Extra Help Availability

I will be available for extra help after school from 2:15 4:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays (after October 5)
