choosesbeingalonetobeingwithothers.Thisindividualalsotendsnottoshowafullrangeofemotions.
Schizotypalpersonalitydisorder.
Withthisdisorder,theaffectedpersonisuncomfortablewith(andmaybeunabletosustain)closerelationships,
andalsohasoddbehaviorsandthoughtsthatwouldtypicallybeviewedbyothersaseccentric,erratic,and
bizarre.
Antisocialpersonalitydisorder.
Individualswiththisdisorderhavenoregardfortherightsofothers.Other,recentnamesassociatedwiththis
personalitytypearepsychopathandsociopath.Unabletobasetheiractionsonanythingexcepttheirown
immediatedesires,personswiththisdisorderdemonstrateapatternofimpulsive,irresponsible,thoughtless,and
sometimescriminalbehavior.Theyareoftenintelligent,articulateindividualswithanabilitytocharmand
manipulateothersattheirmostdangerous,theycanbecomeviolentcriminalswhoareparticularlydangerousto
societybecauseoftheirabilitytogainthetrustofotherscombinedwiththeirlackofconscienceorremorse.
Borderlinepersonalitydisorder.
Peoplewiththisdisorderareunstableintheirrelationships,decisions,moods,andselfperceptions.These
individualsareoftenimpulsiveandinsecure.
Histrionicpersonalitydisorder.
Thebehaviorofindividualsofthispersonalitytypeischaracterizedbypersistentattentionseeking,exaggerated
emotionaldisplays(suchastantrums),andoverreactiontotrivialproblemsandevents.
Narcissisticpersonalitydisorder.
Thisdisorderconsistsprimarilyofaninflatedsenseofselfimportancecoupledwithalackofempathyforothers.
Individualswiththisdisorderdisplayanexaggeratedsenseoftheirownimportanceandabilitiesandtendto
fantasizeaboutthem.Suchpersonsalsohaveasenseofentitlement,expecting(andtakingforgranted)special
treatmentandconcessionsfromothers.Paradoxically,individualswithnarcissisticpersonalitydisorderare
generallyveryinsecureandsufferfromlowselfesteem.
Avoidantpersonalitydisorder.
Thisdisorderhascharacteristicsthatresemblethoseofsocialphobia,includinghypersensitivitytopossible
rejectionandtheresultingsocialwithdrawalinspiteofastrongneedforloveandacceptance.Individualswith
thisdisorderareinhibitedandfeelinadequateinsocialsituations.
Dependentpersonalitydisorder.
Personswithdependentpersonalitydisorderareextremelypassiveandtendtosubordinatetheirownneedsto
thoseofothers.Duetotheirlackofselfconfidence,theyavoidassertingthemselvesandallowotherstotake
responsibilityfortheirlives.
Obsessivecompulsivepersonalitydisorder.
Thisdisorderischaracterizedbyapreoccupationwithorderliness,perfectionism,andcontrol.
