EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE: 30 marks
1. Study the construction of the relay and identify the various parts of the work
station as mentioned in the modular description.

2. Connect the back panel connection of the work station as mentioned in back
panel connection table 1.

3. Connect the Relay with circuit on panel as mentioned in front panel connection
table 2 with the help of provided patch cords.

4. Keep the variac fully clock wise position i.e. maximum position.

5. To remove the relay structure outside just remove the transparent cover and by
using screw driver rotate the screw at the two corners on the relay by 90 degree
by once. Pull the relay outside for internal settings.

6. Set the relay in under voltage mode and the base input voltage setting as
mentioned in the figure 1.

7. Set the Time delay and pick-up fault voltage setting as mentioned in figure 2.

8. After done these settings the time delay will be 10.0 seconds and the under
voltage pick-up value will be 75% of the input voltage.

9. Switch ON the mains by put the MCB up & ALARM ON & TRIP Indication Lamps
will be glow.

10. Press the ON (green color) Push button. It will start the fault voltage injector &
green Indication Lamp glow, Timer will start but we ignore it times because we
have not set the fault voltage.

11. Now on pressing the timer reset switch set the fault voltage according the
percentage of input voltage (in calculation) on digital voltmeter (V1) by rotate the
voltage injector knob in anti-clockwise direction very slowly. When fault voltage
value achieved then stop rotation of variac knob and leave the timer reset switch
simultaneously.
NOTE: To repeat the same experiment user has to put the variac knob fully
clockwise direction and press the reset button on the relay to clear the red led
reset indication on it.

12. Now, press the ON (green color) Push button again it will start the Voltage
injector & green Indication Lamp glow and repeat the step 10. Relay will tripped
according to its Tripping time.
NOTE: If starter is unable to start the voltage injector in repeating of experiment
just switch OFF the MCB and aging put it ON. Now repeat the experiment.

13. Repeat steps for different fault Voltage pick-up values.

14. After completing the experiment switch OFF the work station by put MCB down.

FAULT VOLTAGE CALCULATION IN UNDER VOLTAGE MODE:

Vs = { 1 - (0.05 + a) }Vn
Vs : Pick up setting in Volts
Vn : PT Rating (110/240/415 Volts), In our condition Vn = 240 V (depends on input supply)
a : Weight of switch in ON position = 0.2

Vs = { 1 - (0.05 + 0.2) } 240 V

Vs = 0.75 * 240 V
Vs = 180 V

TRIP TIME DELAY CALCULATION IN UNDER VOLTAGE MODE:

T = k (0.1 + t)
T : Trip time delay in seconds
k : Constant depending on Trip Time Characteristics selected = 10.0
t : Weight of switch in ON position = 0.9

Values of k for different characteristic is as mentioned below:

3.5 Normal Inverse (5.7 sec) in UV when fault is 2Vs
1.0 Definite Time (1.0 sec)
10.0 Definite Time (10.0 sec)
100.0 Definite Time (100.0 sec)

T = 10 (0.1+0.9) sec
T = 10 * 1 sec
T = 10 sec

Trip Time = (Trip time at TMS=1)* TMS
