Suppliers are invited to tender alternative solutions, but these will be subject to acceptance
by PPCoN in each case. All details of materials, components, equipment, procedures and
remedies shall be submitted to Company for approval should a Supplier wish to deviate
from this specification in any way.
All deviations from requirements as described in this document shall be subject to the
requirements as described in PPCoN document CP217, "Guidelines for the Control of
Non-conformances". All deviations to this document, including alternative solutions, shall
be subject to written approval by the responsible PPCoN department. The Materials &
Corrosion department is the responsible PPCoN department for this document.
1.2 Responsibility
The Competence Area Leader for Materials & Corrosion is responsible for this document
and for ensuring that it is updated or revoked when required by organizational or
operational conditions.
1.3 Approval
The document shall be approved by the Resource Area Manager - Oper. & Maint.
1.4 Distribution/revision
This document is distributed in accordance with the distribution list. Those persons
specified on the distribution list are responsible for inserting revised pages when received
and for removing obsolete. In addition they are responsible for informing Information
Logistics, lost manuals, changes in address and for returning the manual when no longer
required.
1.5 Filing/retrieving
The record copy (RC) is filed by the Competence Area for Information Logistics.
1.6 Registration
This manual as well as the directives are registered with an individual document number in
the company's document administration system (FYI) which is managed by the
Competence Area for Information Logistics.
All non-conformances / deviations from this document shall be handled in accordance with
PPCoN document CP 217. "Guidelines for the Control of Non-conformances". Appendix B
in CP 217, "Non-conformance / deviation report" shall be used. All non-conformances /
deviations shall be accepted in writing by PPCoN's TAG group for this document, the
Materials & Corrosion Competence Area.

Correction (Korrigering): Actions taken to deal with a deliverable which does not meet
specified requirements in order to resolve the non-conformance.
Corrective action (Korrigerende tiltak): Actions taken to remove the root-cause of an
existing non-conformance, in order to prevent recurrence.

Some materials used during insulation work can create health, environmental and safety
problems during the construction and maintenance of offshore platforms:
w Chemicals and thinners in glues, etc. can be risky to health, or can cause allergenic
reactions.
w Installation of insulation can be ergonomically heavy work
w Products hazardous to health can be produced during combustion or hot work.
Procedures and work instructions during insulation work shall therefore always be well
defined during the design, construction and maintenance of platforms, and shall include:
Products containing the following shall not be used without prior written approval by
PPCoN:
3 TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
3.1 Design of Insulation Systems
Norsok Standard R-CR-004 does not specify the exact design of insulation systems. The
design of all insulation systems, including removable jackets for valves and flanges, shall
therefore be subject to acceptance by PPCoN prior to use. The design and installation of
insulation systems shall be such that the ingress of water into the insulation shall be
avoided. Method for termination of non-metallic jacketing (tape) onto hot service piping
must also be taken into account.
For all materials, except titanium, it is a requirement that surfaces to be insulated shall be
painted as described in Norsok Standard M-501. It shall be noted that the insulation
contractor is responsible to ensure that no insulation is carried out until painting of all
surfaces is 100% completed.
Reference is made to Annex A of this document, where the build-up for insulation systems
to be used on PPCoN projects is described.
Flanges and valves shall when possible be left uninsulated. When insulation of valves and
flanges is necessary the following shall be applicable:
