Simple Past Tense Regular Verbs - ed Pronunciation

We pronounce / t / if the end of the words sounds like : / p /, / k /,


/c=s/, / f /, /ch/, /sh/ , and /th/
voiceless / th / sound
We pronounce / d / for all the other words sounds like: / b / , / g /, /
v /, /w/, / z/ , / m/ ,/n /, / l /, / r / , voiced / th / sound and all vowels.
We pronounce / id / after / d / and / t / sounds.

Spelling rules for simple form verbs to change them to ed simple past
regular verbs :

1. Add jus a -d :
Example: arrive = arrive-d
Live= live-d
Invite=invite-d

2. Add just -ed : example: open= open-ed


Help= help-ed
Show= show-ed

3. Change the y and add -ied : copy = cop-ied


Try= tr-ied
Study= stud-ied

*Exceptions= played , enjoyed ,stayed = because of the e before the y


do not change it into ied.

4. If at the end you have vowel and consonant double the consonant and
add ed
Example: shop = shop-ped
Prefer = preferred
