Interviewer Hello, and welcome to this weeks episode of Students in Science, with our special guest, Emily
Walker. Hello, Emily. What are you going to tell us about today?
Emily Hello. Well, Im going to tell you about an elephant care-centre in Thailand. Theyre looking for
volunteers to work in the centre. Volunteers pay to work in the centre for between one and three
weeks. And this money pays for the cost of looking after the animals.
Interviewer That sounds amazing! What do volunteers do at the centre?
Emily They help look after the elephants. Every morning they walk to the forest, collect the elephants
and walk back to the centre with them. At the centre, they feed them, and help wash them in the
river. Then they clean the elephants shelters and in the afternoon they take them back to the
forest.
Interviewer What do the elephants eat?
Emily Fruit and lots of it! The volunteers go to local farms and collect pineapples and bananas for
the elephants twice a week.
Interviewer And where is the elephant care-centre?
Emily Its in Tha Yang, in south Thailand. Its about 100 miles from Bangkok and about 15 miles from
the beach. Its a very beautiful place.
Interviewer Well, thanks for telling us about the centre Emily. It sounds like a wonderful place.
