1. A 5000 lb airplane is in a steady glide with the flight path at an angle below the horizontal
(see figure). The drag force in the direction of the flight path is 750 lb. Find the lift force
normal to the flight path and the angle.

2. A jet-propelled airplane in steady flight has forces acting as shown en figure. Find the jet
thrust, lift and the tail load.

3. A wind-tunnel model of an airplane wing is suspended as shown in figure. Find the loads in
member B, C, and E if the forces at A are L = 43.8 lb, D = 3.42 lb, and M = 20.6 in-lb.

4. Find the forces at point A, B, and C of the structure of the braced-wing monoplane shown
in figure.

5. An airplane weighing 5000 lb strikes an upward gust of air which produces a wing lift of 25
kip (see figure). What tail load is required to prevent a pitching acceleration if the dimensions
are as shown? What will be the vertical acceleration of the plane? If this lift force act until the
airplane obtains a vertical velocity of 20ft/s, how much time is required?

6. An airplane weighing 8000 lb has an upward acceleration of 3g when landing. If the
dimensions are as shown in figure, what are the wheel reactions? What time is required to
decelerate the airplane from vertical velocity of 12 ft/s? What is the vertical compression of
the landing gear during this deceleration? What is the shear and bending moment on a
vertical section A-A if the weight forward of this section is 2000 lb and has a center of gravity
40 from this cross section?

7. An airplane is flying at 550 mi/h in level flight when it is suddenly pulled upward into a
curved path of 2000 radius. (See figure) Find the lift forces of the airplane.
