FINAL INTERNSHIP REPORT ASADULLAH

As we all know that unemployment rate in Pakistan is so high. At this time, I can surely say that this
rate is at its peak. First, due to this internship the experience I got made me realize the employment
condition for ordinary people of Pakistan is not stable and secondly my own brother has recently
graduated from university. From his experiences, I came to know that you cannot get a decent job if
you do not have a reference or personal contact.

First, I would like to thanks this esteemed organization i.e. Research and Development Solutions who
joined hands with NUST so that we can get exposure to the corporate world at the start of this
degree.

We were allotted very developed areas of Islamabad, which includes F6, F7, F8, F9, F10 and F11. Well
at the orientation session when we were told about our work. I was bit nervous that how will I
communicate with different employees, managers or owners of local businesses or will they respond
us well or not. But on the first day of our field work when we went to our first survey the manager of
the shop responded us very well but still he was hesitated and thought that maybe we were from any
investigation agency. However, he calmed down when we showed him our university cards and the
consent letter from RADS.

Well surveying in the Centaurus was not much stressful; all businesses responded us well and
appreciated our work. However, the security of Safa Gold Mall gave us a little tough time, as they did
not let us take interviews there. Still somehow, we convinced them and got the permission letter from
Marketing Department. I observed that the more the popular the businesses was the more they
responded us well because I think when your business is new you are afraid to share your employee
information.

As this was an employee survey so we learnt a lot about how companies in Pakistan are hiring their
employees and how they are paying them, what type of benefits are being provided to employees,
whether it is a small scale business or medium scale business.

Well on our evaluation, we came to know there were very less businesses those were providing good
benefits to their employees such as medical insurance or death insurance. They were lot of businesses
where employees were not happy from their benefits or incentives, which they were provided.

Well if we talk about the vacancies there were few vacancies opened in different retail stores and
service stores also. Only some developed stores had advertised those vacancies in newspaper or
websites like rozee.pk/OLX. Otherwise, if we talk about some small-scale local businesses located in
the different marakiz, nearly 90% do not advertise for their vacancies. They all prefer the employees
from references, personal contact or if someone comes by and ask them for work or drops his CV in
the organization. The thing I did not like was on average there is no age limit for specific managerial
or assistant jobs apart from salesman job. The person with age of 60 can be at the manager post.
Now we come to the qualification, as far we have learnt through this internship that education is must
now. Without education, you are nothing. Graduate degree is must if you need to have respectable
job. Even the general stores and super stores require staff who have done at least Intermediate or
matric plus experience matters a lot.

We got access to many garment shops, shoes, and other departments. Most of the businesses we
interviewed were retail stores and service stores. There we found that about 75 to 80 percent
employees were male. Therefore, the problem arises that there is lack of women empowerment in our
corporate sector. Instead of two to 3 stores all, the required staff were male and the vacancies, we got
also required male staff.

Therefore, this all evaluation shows that our employment system is not stable like other developed
countries. The people of Pakistan are considered highly capable and talented but there is no value of
talent in our country. The thing that I have noticed is that the main problems for unemployment in
Pakistan arises because of poor education system. It has been seen that many talented students left
study because of injustice in our education system. The other thing all businesses should stop this
referencing system a proper recruitment systems should be made. The retirement age in Pakistan is
very high so youth doesnt get much opportunities to get in.

The solutions to these problems that I have thought are that there should be proper planning by the
government of Pakistan and should initiate starting more businesses at public sector. A proper and
justified education system should be made. The age of retirement should be set at 55 years at both
public and private sectors. There should be peace across the country so that foreigners do not
hesitate to invest in our country and the jobs should be given purely on merit.

Thus at the end I just want to thanks our university NUST who joined hands with RADS so that we can
get this valuable experience. I will also thanks RADS to give us such experience and helping me to
increase my communication skills and making, me exposed to real corporate world. I really enjoyed
working with RADS and I will surely recommend the juniors of mine this organization, if they are
looking for quality community service internship.
